It does seem to be a well made machine with good technical support, long battery life, good sound and a beautiful screen.

comparing my 8600 side by side with the 505 i'll give you brunt of it. the gateway definetly has a noticible solid design and sound quality is comparible and pretty much undetectable for comparrison on both machines. but the screen on the 505 is clearly inferior to the 8600 and battery life on the 505 can be questioned because i didnt have the time to test one directly sitting there waiting for the system to die :-p

ASUS has launched a Pentium M laptop with ATI 9600 graphics called the M6000N. Here is the ASUS M6000N notebook webpage from the ASUS website. The M6000N weighs 5.6 lbs (2.6 kg) and is available with both regular and widescreen displays. ASUS is known for making very high quality motherboards, graphics cards, and notebooks. Their notebooks are also often available in barebones form. The M6000N is offered for sale here in Denmark with an availability date of 12/23/2003. I have so far been unable to find it at U.S. vendors.

I have to concur with this thread again. Eurocom advertised WUXGA with the M375E but is it not currently available in the configuration option. I just believe I cannot get the laptop I want

Pentinum M
ATI 9600 or Fire GL T2
Six pounds
gigabit lan
WUXGA 15.4 screen
Priced reasonably

Guess I'm between the IBM vs. Dell, neither necessarily being my all around machine, but the closest I can find. Dell edging IBM with the better prices. I'm going to give up soon, LOL!

you need the voodoo m460 centrino 1.7ghz 1gb ram radeon9600 128mb
post #126 of 126
He said resonably priced though. A voodoo with those specs is about $3,500 compared to a Dell for about $2,500

I'm in the same boat though, I"ve put off buying a laptop for months now to wait for a Centrino with a 9600, and the voodoo would be perfect since it's fast and lightweight, but it's so expensive. My dream laptop would just be a Gateway 450XL with a 9600 instead of a 9000, but they can't change it out. The 505 doesn't have the configuration (1.7 centrino, gig of RAM, etc) that I want.

So I'll probably be buying a Dell either tonight or tomorrow unless something new comes up in that time.
