my advice would be, if u dont like them (like me) because of gaming, get a 19" LCD in XGA for home use (providing u do most your gaming at home), and use in game resolution formats (or some powerstrip settings?)

1 vote for widescreen!

I love my widescreen monitor for several reasons.

1. Everybody loves how it looks. When I show pictures to people (from my 6.3 megapixel Canon Digital Rebel), they look GREAT in full screen.

2. It fits perfectly in my carrying case (Targus Hardcase), with my power supply and accessories.

3. Games and movies that I play look great! When I watch other people play UT2004 on standard computer screens, it feels like I can't see anything to the right or left, because the up and down view is so high, and the side-to-side view seems so limited (compared to my widescreen).

4. I agree with the previous comments about full keyboards fitting better on widescreen notebooks.

5. Standard screens just seem so "old style."

Whether you like a widescreen depends on what you use your computer for. Going from my Dell 8600 with a 15.4" widescreen and my Toshiba with a 15.4" (4:3) screen and back to the Dell, the widescreen seems small.

If I'm typing I like to see as much of the page as possible at 100%, which my Viewsonic LCD allows me to do on my pc because it rotates from horizontal to vertical.

I concur it depends on what you use your computer for.
I watch movies and videos daily while play on LAN only every second weekend so I settled with widescreen.

I love my widescreen. Only problem is older games that dont support wide modes, but I play all my games (all the games that support it anyways) windowed so it doesn't matter.

Friday night I played UT2k4 on my notebook pc, with it plugged into my friend's massive widescreen plasma tv, and with the sound blasting over his Bose stereo system! It was awesome. The game never looked so good! Next time though, I'm going to try using a different connection than s-video. It just doesn't do the tv justice.

I love my widescreen notebook, the Dell i9300. With it's 17" widescreen, movies are great. And that little bit of extra room is great for "Tile Windows Vertically" option. I game on it a lot and mostly play CS:S, which has native support for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 ratios. Also, for games without native widescreen support, there are sites that can force a lot of games into widescreen. Also, I can run games in normal 4:3 with black bars on the side of screen too. So all around a good thing for me.
