Celeron 360 vs Athlon XP-M 3000 vs Centrino 715?

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for a budget laptop under $1100 CDN.
So far my choices are.

HP NX6110 ($1060 CDN)
Intel Celeron M 360J, 1.4 GHz, 1-MB L2
512MB RAM, 60GB HD, DVD/CD-RW, Combo Modem 10/100 NIC, 15" XGA Display, 802.11g wireless, XP Pro

Compaq Presario R3220CA ($1069 CDN)
Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 3000+
512MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 256MB) 333MHz
40GB (4200RPM) Hard Drive
15.4" WXGA High-Definition Widescreen, 24X DVD/CD-RW, High-speed 56K modem and 10/100 BaseT ethernet
NVIDIA GeForce 4 420 32MB graphics card

Acer Aspire 1681LCI ($1150)
Centrino 1.50GHz, 2MB L2 cache
512MB RAM, 60GB HDD
DVD/CD-RW, 15" XGA display, WLAN, LAN, v.92 modem, Win XP Home

It will be used indoor (school & home), so battery life is not that important.
Nothing too intensive, just basic web surfing, word processing, watching movies, listening to music. Right now i'm leaning toward the Compaq Presario R3220CA for the better screen and speakers compare to the Acer.
do listen to alot of music so speaker is very important, that's the only thing holding me back from buying a Acer.
Does anyone knows the performance difference (speed wise), between the Athlon XP-M 3000+ 1.6GHZ 256kb L2 cache vs the Celeron M 360J 1.4ghz 1MB L2 cache? How do they both rank against the Centrino 1.50GHZ 2MB L2 cache?

When you're in that price range I wouldn't worry about CPU power anymore, you can always upgrade later. I would decide looking at the Graphics card. One with dedicated memory is going to be much much better. Out of the 3 I'd get the Compaq or the Acer. With the Compaq you can get a Turion down the road since it uses the 754 Socket. Acer because it's higher quality than the Compaq.

id go with the compaq on spec reasons

I'd say the AXP is the fastest of the bunch.

Yep, have to agree the compaq is the better option of the 3. Good mix of perfromance and value.

Go w/ the Compaq, more bang for your buck. Has everything, video card, memory, wide screen, processor, & burner. See if it's fitted w/ blueteeth (tooth) and internal wireless.
