Adapter?

I am wondering if anyone knows of an adapter that will let my plug a desktop GPU in my 766? I have the bottom of it off anyway “I have a small fan blowing right on the video card.” I was going to what until I got home and buy a desktop “Afghanistan” but saw Alienware had upgradeable graphics. I really don’t think the mr9700 is an upgrade from the go5700 but that is another subject. I don’t have the money to buy a desktop and I don’t need a laptop anymore either. Has anyone tried to do this? Or is there another company besides alienware that sells new cards? And yes, I am retarded

Thanks

None that I have heard of. This type of AW video modules are proprietary so you will only be able to get it through AW.

If you have the technical knowledge (and advanced electronic equipment and electronic engineering skills) you could make your own adaptor but you will need to do some major bug squashing before you can get it to work properly(if possible at all).

The desktop video card may need an external supply also since the laptop won't be able to provide enough power for it, a burned out motherboard on a laptop is not a pretty picture(and a very expensive one).

You may want to try the products found here: http://www.mobl.com/expansion/pci/index.html

But I'm not sure how a video card will perform on it and you may need an external monitor.

You can experiment with your system all you want. If you damage your system or equipment the responsibility will be only yours, I take no responsibility if you mess up your system. This may also void your system's warranty if any.

Happy modding!

thanks for the info, I am thinking now I can take some of the hardware inside this and build a desktop. This thing has a socket 478 so I think that will work in a desktop board? Also does anyone know if I can use the ram out of this thing or not?

well on a laptop most likely not, they should be sodimms and in most current mobo's you will using ddr or ddr2, where the ram will be shorter than the slot...so to answer your question no.
