Screen won't turn off in 8886

It's weird, I used to have the same problem with my desktop. Under the power options properties in windows xp pro I have it to where when the computer is plugged in the monitor will turn off after five minutes. This doesn't happen I'm assuming the turn off hard disks doesn't work as well but then again I don't know what it does. Well with the desktop I changed motherboards and it worked just fine but I wouldn't know about the laptop. Will a reinstallation of Win XP Pro solve it?

Also I'm having the same experience as a previous thread where the monitor won't power off when shut. I don't see it as a problem.....is there?

What drivers do you have installed for the graphics card? Mine works fine with those options, but the screen doesn't turn off when I close it. I believe this is just how the machine is set up. Different laptops have it set differently. Are you sure you don't have something open that prevents "screensavers" from turning on? Media player, for example, prevents them so that you can watch movies without the interruption...
