x1000 boot problem

I sold my X1000 to my friends, today he called me and told me that
the computer wont boot. thinking that its a software problem, I told him that I was going to call him but that he should try a boot disc. when I called him today he mentions to me that he does not see compaq in red letters like he normally does and that the blue light (wifi) comes on, the cdrom drive clicks and the keyboard lights middle light stays on, Nothing appears on the screen, The power button lights up. charge indicator lights up. and everything works but nothing appears on the screen. The hard drive also doesn't seem to boot up.

What could be the possible cause. I have the spare parts that I took out. I have a banias processor and 2 256mb of ram sticks that I took out. Has any one else had this problem. I am sure it might be the ram, but am I rights in guessing this?

Any insight into this is appreciated. I am not even sure if the computer is still under warranty.

When that happened to me, it turned out it was something in the bios. Was there a bios flashed before you sold it? Also, have him check on connections. It could have had something jolted loose as well. He may need to take some screws out to check.

#1.. Do not Flash a non booting or shutting down system. You will end up with a dead machine as sure as I'm typing.. #2 Your machine needs a video card and these are very well known for failure. If you need help just yell. Ive repaired a ton of these and the cards warp, Generally 3-6 mo's after the warranty expires, This does require replacement of the card which is 239.00 from HP the last time I checked, Then we have a plate we designed to eliminate future problems with the new card.. (No we do NOT sell the plates), as we have a patent attorney working on this with us at the present time.. Call If you need more help.

Thanks guys for all your help. I asked my friend to take out the ram chip under the computer and put it back in and it worked. Everything is working as normal.

Lucky you.. Tell him to get rid of it as it will have the video card issue sooner or later. We'll see a ton of these soon..
