Nice try AMD, it looks like AMD should concentrate on their Dual-Core processors, the more I hear about Turion the more I tend to associate with vapor ware like RD-Ram

Um...Say what?

I'm wondering why we haven't seen a review from anandtech or Tom's Hardware Guide, or any other semi-reputable location yet?
this is bad news and theinquirer is a good source, totally AMD-biased!
But I still like turion better than pentium m, for the 64 innovation.

That laptop is their entry level, it's a piece of crap. I'd wait until something with more power and better specs come along (if ever).
well....acer cancled the Aspire 2024 (turion + x700) launch in the US, and said there will be no Travelmate turion lappys. That is a real blow to the noggin. Now we wait for asus, clevo, uniwill, compal or arima to come to the rescue

Really? Sigh, was looking forward to that laptop. Had the best configuration options.

That's exactly what I was thinking. It's a rare day when the INQ breathes a bad word about AMD...
Well.... they are using the obviously biased GamePC for an 'excellent' reference. I say forget them all until they are put into actual notebooks that end-users will see... not some desktop mobos and unnatural environments.
And the Pentium M was obviously designed for desktop use as well...

Face it, they're both for mobile use and the Turion (in most things) isn't as good as a similarily clocked Dothan.
Again... I can't stress this enough... just wait until it is released and fully tested by someone reliable like Tom's...
Again... Nobody could possibly show us better results for turion than theinquirer.
AMD's adantage is in pricing. Turions cost a lot less than Pentium Ms.
the turion is still in its baby stages, maybe amd will make a PM killer later on

I still don't get wy people think that Turion will be bad. It is basically just a s754 mobile Athlon 64 with deeper sleep states, better memory controller, lower power consumption and SSE3. It has the same 1MB L2 cache. So how can it perform worse than a regular Athlon 64? Yes, the P-M is a great piece of hardware, but if you think it has more brute horsepower than a K8, then you deserve to keep reading GamePC reviews and believing them...... Those numbers posted by GamePC show such a disparity that even a FX-55 would look bad...... Tell please that you don't believe a P-M will beat an FX-55.

Check this review by TechReport.com, a much more reputable site than GamePC: http://www.techreport.com/reviews/20...f/index.x?pg=1
Admitted, it is not on a sonoma platform, but the biggest contributor to the P-M performance is the 2MB L2 cache, what makes the CPU less dependent on the bus.

No, but the Pentium M can only be plugged into desktop boards made for the Pentium M. That's rather important, y'see. They'll still be designed to take advantage of lower power consumption, etc. It's just that now they'll be compatible with normal power supplies, desktop cases, etc.

Like they say, there's two sides to a story. I would also like to see what anandtech, Tom's Hardware, and other reputable hardware editors/alnalysis's have to say about Acer's AMD laptops.

But I thought we were comparing performace here. If anything the mobos made for the P-M reduce its performance compared to a desktop board as a review of the ASUS CT-479 would show.

Gee, the Inquirer, there's a great source for tech news.

This should be no surprise. I tried to explain in other threads the market agreements that are place in the US. There is Turion 64 + x700 notebooks all over in Europe and has been for atleast a month and in other parts of the world. When it is not concidered high end these notebooks could/might come to the US.

Depends if you want to wait and see or not.
