12-inch notebooks, what to get

I have been looking at notebooks for a while and the time has come for me to actually buy one but i still dont know what I want. I would like to spend around a grand give or take a few hundred bucks. I know i want a 12-inch notebook with at least 512Mb of ram and durability, after that im open for suggestions. I really like the apple powerbooks because of their durability and security but they are just a little more than I would like to spend, and I'm not sure i want a to run and adjust to mac. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please Help! thanks

there are tons of threads on this subject. try doing a search.

the laptop that comes to mind is the Averatecs....wait a little sometimes this month they are suppose to role out new 13.3" and 10" laptops....with centrinos. they're 12" are roughly around $800-1000.

i'd go with the apple powerbooks if you could save up for the extra cost. just my opinion
