Top 10 reasons to buy a DELL Laptop

1. I love trying to figure out if I am a Home Office or a Small Business. What if I am a large business run from my home? Yikes!!

2. I want to own technology that is at least 6 months out of date...it makes me feel safe. I think the world moves too fast. So I sure don't want my computer to move fast too.

3. I love a web site that requires seven pages of ordering to see my final price. I have nothing but time on my hands!

4. I enjoy having to fill out reams of paperwork to get the money I overpaid back in a rebate check. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you have loaned $200 of your money to a corporate giant for three months (Interest Free)

5. Paying so much extra for a laptop helps me to feel as if I have contributed to the economy.

6. I appreciate how hard I have to look around the DELL site just to see if the laptop has a USB port. DELL must figure that this weeds out the idiots from the rest of us. If I cant figure out were your specifications page is, then I am too dumb to own a DELL laptop to begin with. Keep that page buried, the strong will find it.

7. I like the fact that my Technical Support is redirected to India. They have such cool accents.

8. Great idea selling my "on site" warranty service to the lowest bidder in my neighborhood. I think it is very nice you find work for the hardware technicians in my area that are not good enough to find work on their own. In addition, I like having this person in my house seeing all my other great toys. Maybe he can set the clock on my VCR for me.

9. DELL does not give me a free carry case. Good idea. That is also why I bought a car without rust proofing or bumpers.

10. I appreciate the fact DELL feels I only need free technical support for one year. Why would I want lifetime free support? You think I am an idiot or something? If I need help after one year, well then I deserve to pay for it.

Or put simply, don't buy a DELL laptop.

/searches for fire extinguisher expecting a flame war to develop in this thread - hopes it won't be needed

heh... is this thread necessary at all?
i think we need to get the entire fire department down, instead of just a fire extinguisher.

Whereas I think the first post provides valid criticism of dell, I think the top reason to buy a tell in reality is the 750 dollar off coupons that you can get for them.

qommio or xps?

Dear Sir,

You sound like very experienced.

I am in decision process to which one to buy Toshiba Qosmio G15-AV501 or Dell XPS (15.4" LCD) laptop. All I need is a reliable one.

Don't buy a DELL Computer

Don't buy a DELL Computer

I have only decided to place this on the site because my daughter has been through such a nightmare with them, (after I recommended she buy a Dell for grad school.) I'm sorry I did.

We have used Dell computers for a long time in our company and previously the service was very good to excellent. Now, it is awful, terrible, horrible. You cannot get a response from the company. They have insulated themselves with a buffer of chat, email, or low level support (usually in India) to stop you from speaking with anyone in authority there.

Apparently, they outsourced a lot of support to India. Speaking with support there is a waste of time. They have disguised themselves with American names, like Rebecca, John or whatever, but they are certainly not here. They often do not understand what you say, nor can you understand what they say due to accents. That is not so bad, you could work through that...except if they misunderstand you and record the wrong information. Then you are in for a really bad time.

If you ask for a U.S. contact, they will not give it to you. They say they have no contacts in the U.S. ??? I asked to speak to a supervisor and did. She was the one who said they had no contacts. When asked to speak to her supervisor, she said there weren't any there except her. (If you do start a chat with them, make sure you copy and paste it into something you can save. When they end the chat, all the text is gone. I don't think that's by accident.)

Needless to say they have ignored months of pleas from my daughter to resolve her problem, (which they caused, by the way.)

Her laptop came DOA. Hours and hours of tech support did nothing. They sent her bill to the wrong address and when she didn't pay it on time (because she never got it), she was sent to collections. She has since paid in full, but does not feel she should be charged for late fees, when A. she wasn't late, B. she was told by Dell NOT TO PAY anything until she had a working computer and C. she never received a bill.

No matter who she tried to call, they would promise it was taken care of, but it was not. It's still not. "Customer Service" does not even answer calls. They screen them, and call back sometimes, sometimes not. How they can run a business like this is beyond me.

I did a search for Dell complaints in Google and found we are not the only ones. Complaints are rampant. There are whole sites dealing with complaints.

I have emailed and faxed Dell letting them know I have posted a DO NOT BUY DELL warning on this site. I would no longer recommend a Dell to anyone until Dell gets their act together, if they ever do.

CEO VocRehab.com

P.S. I have yet to hear from Dell. No response from faxes, or email to customer "support." My daughter has heard from Dell, finally. (It's been almost a year.) It turns out that Dell is blaming Dell Financial Services for the problem while Dell Financial Services, (I really don't think they understand the word "service" by the way.) simply ignores the problem.

BE WARNED: If you must buy a computer from Dell, do not use Dell Financial Service. They are not the same company. They are just a revolving charge company using the Dell name. They take no responsibility for their mistakes or problems. Go through your bank or a reputable credit card company.
Or simply put, don't buy a DELL computer.

1. I don't care I order from all 3
2. I enjoy that XPS2 owners get a graphic card no one else has yet, 6800Ultra!!!
3. Unless you look at the top or bottom on the config screen
4. ??? Never overpaid here!
5. I also enjoy paying $1600 for a laptop that most companies charge $2500 for ::coughalienware/sagercough::
6. Yes I know most people have trouble clicking hyperlinks on websites
7. Indian accents are cool!
8. Hey money is money
9. Yeah, we'd rather take the free double and quadruple Ram upgrades
10. Yeah because I am going to be using the same laptop for 70 years...

The Dell config screen doesn't modify the price until you complete the order, as opposed to something like Alienware which is updated in real time as you add or remove components.

Points nine and ten don't seem valid though. I don't know of any laptop manufacturers that give out free anything, including cases. (Special, limited time deals do not count.) My Alienware laptop didn't come with one, my sister's Vaio didn't come with one. My dad's laptop (I don't remember what brand) didn't come with one. And I certainly have never known of any company for any computer related product that offers a lifetime support service.

Now that was funny!

dells even with a $750 coupon are just on par with price of systems from discountlaptops or ibuypower. so even the coupon doesn't justify that stuff.

dell lost it's touch

What's fascinating is that people actually work up enough emotion about a consumer product to go the all that trouble! I simply can't think of *any* inanimate object that I hate enough to conceive, write and then post in a brand specific forum, that gentlemen, is anger.

It could be that he realized people actually laugh at him for carrying a computer with a 1500 dollar paintjob that involves the same psychological inadequacy issues surrounding red sports cars, plaid jackets and clown shoes.

Mr. Snore's post says far more about him than it does your basic Dell owner.

I do not own a Dell, like Dell, or plan on owning a Dell, but many of your commments make no sense.

-Technology 6 months out of date? Where did you get that from?
-Overpaying? NOBODY pays the full 'retail' price of a Dell with their constant ridiculous coupons---they offer arguably THE CHEAPEST prices on the net for similarly equipped models.

I'm done my little rant.

P.S. I forgot that the Ferrari 3200's 80GB 4200rpm was the current technology--guess Dell has a lot to learn!!!

Although I just bought a Dell Ispiron 9300 i'm not really a Dell fan or have i ever been, but i don't feel i could have gotten a similar laptop for around the same price.

17 inch widescreen
1.86 gb Pentium M
60 gb 7200 RPM HD
256 mb Nvidia 6800 vid card
DVD-rw/CD-rw drive
Windows XP home
1280 MB of Ram
a 6 cell, and a 9 cell battery
wireless networking
and a few more things
for around 1700 and some odd dollars.

Yeah Ibuypower/cyberpower have great deals...i was going to get one through initially, but they only offer a ATI MR9700 graphics card on their laptops unless you get their top model which has a P4 and is over $2500

Again I'm not a DELL fan, I've always been an AMD & ATI fanboy, but because of the laptop im getting for money i chose the DELL I 9300, which has INTEL & Nvidia. I was just on a budget and don't have the patience to wait for a nice AMD TURION.

Sorry i double posted, not sure how it happened.

This guy is a queer. The list isnt even funny. It could have at least been funny.

He's just upset; He bought an overpriced red paint job with a sticker.

Hmmmm...... get an XPS/2 and be privy to the fastest gaming laptop on the planet, or pay $1500 more for AW laptop with inferior technology?

Oh but wait, thats right, AW gives you the bag. Forgot about that. Must make you feel like Madonna, owning a $1500 bag.
