I had it in my halls of residence, I don’t lock it to anything when at home,.. I know its an alienware, but my mum and dad would not be able to steel it and hide it very well really would they? heh.
The case has smashed in as you can see, it will need a whole new case, the front, top, side and bottom have all been smashed in some way. Also a piece of socket has fallen out, which is off the main board (connects to the PCMCIA board), keyboard cable has broke. So quite bad i think :S Also the HDD may be damaged as i heard a 'clicking', and I have no clue about anything else. From what ive been told the DVD-RW drives are not very durable to bumps and knocks.
Alienware dont offer accidental damage (or did not at the time), and I think even if I get it repaired my 3 year warrenty with Alienware may be effected? Woman on Customer service pretty much made out that it was void. :S
My laptop will be gettin picked up today though, so I can nag the engineers next week to find out.
I am not really confident enough to strip it all down and repair it myself. If the Insurance decide to give me the £ for the repair, then I will go to Alienware, and I have a feeling they will not offer it, or charge me more than the Insurance company will want to pay for a ‘repair’.
If the insurance company cannot get it repaired correctly on there own and to a suitable state, and then have issues with my 3 year warrenty (which was also covered by the insurance in the cost), they will probably give me the full value back for which I initially paid. I have interpreted this from what I have read in my insurance policy. It all comes down to what the engineers say, and how much they estimate for repair or if they write it off straight away.
I feel nervous about it all, lol. I will ring the engineers early next week and see how it’s getting on. I will keep you posted.
Cheers for all your concern, Ben.
P.s. yeah maxed out cred card! But I got it especially to help out with my laptop so had 6months interest free, enough time to pay it al off
