What happens when u drop an alienware laptop :( - Page 3

The warranty covers parts and labour for mechanical/electrical breakdown. But it does not cover anything to do with accidental damage. And yeah the unit was discontinued, but they kept them going under the workstations section for a little while (maybe to clear them out????). I really don’t know. I covered the cost of the warranty in with my insurance, so if they cannot honour it I will request the £ paid for the warrenty back.
We will see I guess?! Hopefully tomorrow I will find out, scary.
Ben.

Just spoke to Lakeside, told me laptop "beyound economical repair". What I am concerned about is that they will find me a replacement, however from the way he said it it sounds like they wont be getting an Alienware one, just a laptop with the best spec which matches mine. :S I am obviously not happy bout that so contacting my insurance company.

Had a fun day of arguments, the insurance initially said they would not pay more than £1200 for a new laptop, as that is what they could get a equivelant spec laptop for (not alienware obviously). So after about 3 hours of arguin got it sorted, and I have ordered a new 7700 model. yey..... can look forward to the phases now
cheers, Ben.

Good for you! Congratulations for standing your ground and getting the insurance company to pay the fair claim amount. So let us know how you're doing in the phases, Ben.

Yep, I have "mock ordered" the 7700, the larger screen 1680 x 1050, Win XP Pro, P4 3.4Ghz, 1GB RAM, NVIDIA GO 6800, Single Drive 60GB (May see if i can get another 1 in there for RAID 0 after claim finished and i get my laptop, if possible??), DVD-RW, standard sound and a 3 year warrenty. Just got to get my invoice to forward to insurance company and it get approved, which I was told does not look like its going to be a problem.
Though I think they may not like the warrenty bit, but I included that cost in with my original Policy, and told them about it when I took it out. So I think I should be ok! Wohoo. Happy its very nearly sorted Just hope I dont get any technical Problems with the machine itself now. Cheers, Ben.

cool ben! don't give in to them, no matter what. Its good that you included the warranty cost but you might want to contact Alienware and explain the situation and see if they can transfer your current warranty over to the replacement system. (just in case)

hehe, yeah I will try if i can! Transfer the remaining 2 and half years over would be good! Considerin they have had £5000 out of me hehe. I will wait for the invoice and wait for their reply, but im pretty happy I will get it on my new one n e way, the argued with me enough today and then said sorry for being wrong. So as with this, i wont give up and make sure I get what i want considering how much i paid them and what for, and what their own policy says. But im happy I have got sumwhere. thanks for your concern. Ben

sorry to hear about the issues....as a university student myself i know the feeling, sucks that it happened to you though. its nice that they finally agreed to get you a new one though, cause that one was totalled by the looks of it.

The one thing which still confuses me about this is: why in the name of Jeebus would you lock a laptop to your desk? Obviously it's not to keep it from being bumped or knocked over, and I can't think of any other reason that you would. I don't have my desktop keyboard chained down to my desk.
He had it locked to the desk so it wouldnt be stolen.

"I had it in my halls of residence, I don’t lock it to anything when at home,.. I know its an alienware, but my mum and dad would not be able to steel it and hide it very well really would they? heh. "

Yeah, since I Have been at my halls,.. Well for 2 years now,... I have known half a dozen people who have had their room broke into and things stolen! While my £2500 laptop is in halls I keep it secure at all times. It’s to risky not to, and too easy for people to take if not secure! It is advised by the halls to have locks on a laptop, and if possible a security kit for a desktop. Halls of residence are a major target for thieves!!
I was just blonde enough to walk away with the laptop locked to desk,... whoops!! Glad sorted now though, but I have not got the invoice from Alienware I was told I would get :S. Will check tomorrow morning and then ring them I guess.
Will keep you posted, Ben.

lol, thats naughty!! tut! In theory, but i wud not trade my ex laptop in for all this stress and x amounts of months for the claim to go through and Alienware to build a new 1 etc. etc.. Got to ring insurance again in a min as I have a new problem,... this about my 30th call at my cost!! They never ring back, always get someone different and dont understand any technical terms,... FUN!! heh, Ben.
