It's not like it'll "blow it" for those still looking to do it in the future (like me). I haven't had a chance to read that one though...does he at least reference this forum? Giving some credit to those here who've worked so hard on it? He should at least do that.

I was contaced by an author from another site asking if he could use my pictures, but he said would write his own article. I gave permission as long as credit is given where appropriate

more cache helps the cpu run faster, but is not manditory for this pin mod. 400fsb is required though.

well i did all the stuff and when i turned it back on i shut of in less than a second after the second time i took it back apart and went with my old one. so it works now but i was nervus 4 a sec. i am thinking it was allredy %$&#@^ because it came from my friends broken d600. so i think i inadvertenly found what is wrong with his comp

Took mine apart for the second time this week, this time with a Torx driver, and applied AS to the GPU and graphics memory. Idle temperature seems to have dropped to 52c from 57c before, so well worth it.

Unfortunately I broke one of the Torx screws trying to tighten it too hard; I think the heatsink plate should be OK cos the other three are still holding it on, but it's still a nuisance.

i'm a complete idiot with hardware lol but i don't see how ppl break the torx... mine tightened to a point and then just racheted... maybe i was just lucky - God watches over fools like me thankfully hehe

AS5'd 'em and ain't touchin' 'em again...

if ppl are not used to it, they always overtighten. see it everyday

Yeah, I'd never used one of those Torx screws before...will be more careful in future! Do you know if I can buy a replacement screw for it?

Compaq made the Torx famous, what a pain! It should be fine with 3 on it. I am surprised it broke, the springs acted as a ratchet on mine.

OK thanks, got a bit worried when I realised the end had come off! Stupid screwheads, what's wrong with a standard crosshead?!

it probably keeps the average joe from opening it. I had a hard time finding one locally that was the right size (T-8).

Hello,

First am sorry for asking such newbie questions but it's been like 2 hours browsing and couldn't find what i wanted to ask

Anyway, I have an HP Pavilion dv1071ea that comes with an Dothan but i don't know which Mother Board it has but i think the 850 not 915 so here's the questions

1) Which Mother board do i have? look at :

2) If it's 850, the pin mod will not work right? What will happen if i tried it? will i frie something??

3) is there anything else that can be done to increase the perfermance (even a small enhancement) ??

Thx

1. It is the intel 855
2. It will not work, you might fry it
3. Not really...
