A Photo Guide for Pin Modding 9300/XPS and Applying AS5 to GPU - Page 56

I could swear C0 steppings are the newest and best over-clockers? B1 being the last stepping.

C0 is the latest steppings, and all 2 meggers are C0. So using this logic all 2 meggers are good over clockers.

I read it's pushing it for 1.8 @ 2.4 ghz, though. The M170 can be had for $1349 with the 60 GB 7200 RPM drive or $1384 with the 120 GB 5400 RPM drive. What are your thoughts on the pin mod "goals"? Are people having really good luck with 1.7 @ 2.26 Ghz at least? Or best to swap the 2.13 from the 9300 into the XPS and have a 2 Ghz 9300 to sell?

thanks
i got one coming, i was thinking about getting a 1.7 and pm it

That's not true according to Intel's website, a lot of 2mb CPUs are 478 pin B1 stepping. All C0s that I could find are 479 pin.

i dont think i will pm my new xps, 2.0 ghz is good enough

I wouldn't worry about it if I had a 2gHz. Unless i had a guaranteed 2.4 or 2.66

Quick question I found a Pentium M745 1.8 if I Pinmod that into my XPS will I really see that much of a difference over my current Pentium M770? and has anyone here done a 1.8 pinmod on the XPSM170 yet?

hold up....

can my pentium m 740 be pin modded in my 9300? because that is 533fsb

Just thought I'd contribute - after cleaning out dust from a year old 9300, lapping the CPU/GPU heat sinks and applying AS5, my idle CPU temps are in the mid to low 30's and GPU temps are in the mid to low 40's. Made a huge difference, considering they were idling in the high 50's and low 60's before-hand.

My CPU dropped to 22 idle last night. I was afraid it was going to turn off. Buahahahah!

Here it shows Celerons being pinmodded. It's for a Toshiba, but of course will work on a Dell, as well:

Another success story. 1.6 at 2.13. Before applying AS5/cleaning dust, temps under prime were hovering at 72C, now at 2.13 with AS5 temps are hovering around 55C under heavy load in prime. Almost a 20C drop.

Only problem is I messed up my 6800 heatsink a little when I overtightened two of the heatsink screws causing them to snap. So, I only have 2 screws holding the HS to the video card. I need two replacement screws (spring loaded ones) and the X part on the back end of the heatsink. Anyone know where I can get one???? (Word of caution, don't overtighten screws to HS)

Even with a loose HS connection my temps on my 6800 Go don't go much beyond 55C (at 330/690) or 60C (at 375/730). Both are stable.

I got a 1.7 to run prime stable at 2.23 without voltmod in my 9300.

Rep. to the original poster as this tutorial is "Awesome"...

that's awesome!
if I were to pin mod my machine, I think I would like to go with a 1.8, but from reading this thread, it seems like you have to volt mod, and sometimes it doesn't work at all. we need a list of success and failures with which cpu.

I read the tutorial and it seems like a fascinating project but I was wondering if anyone had reported a failed pinmod on a 1.6 to 2.13 conversion? If the mod failed what were the symptoms of the failure (failure to boot, BSD)?

Thanks ...
