i have done 2 1.6 pin moda without any problem, 99% work without problem

My recollection is there has only been 1 failure at 1.6.

I just wanted to report that I suscefully pin modded my Inspiron 9300 following this guide. I used a M725 1.6 Dothan, everything is running great also I applied Altic Silver 5 to the CPU and the GPU and got a temperature drop of about 8 degrees for each.

If anyone is interested there is a very good thermal compound remover available called Arctic Silver ArctiClean I used it on the CPU, GPU and heat sinks, it left them spotless.

Thanks for writing this guide Why0Why.

OK then ..
Well i might just start. ;/
I am waiting on a 7800 from dell now. I have the tools avalable to rebend the heatpipe to fit. While i am in there, i will see what i can learn ;\
I do not understand how a video card can be "cough", in production "cough" for 3 days, but there it sits. Oh ya , It`s the weekend.."LOL"

All, I need some advice about doing this mod. Please read and be gentle:

1 - I am (was) planning on modding my i9300 (1.6 GHz, 533 FSB) laptop to 2.13 GHz.

2 - I purchased a 1.6 GHz, 400 MHz FSB Dothan and a new palrest/keyboard.

3 - The warranty on my unit was set to expire at the end of April so I purchased an extended 2 year warranty from Dell.

4 - I am pretty much set to do the mod BUT I am concerned that if I do the mod I will effectively void the $170 warranty I just bought. I am considering just replacing the palmrest/keyboard and leaving it at that.

What would you do? Do you pinmod (and void your new warranty) or sell the chip and be happy with your current configuration? I did not spend $170 on a warranty just to be told that it is unuseable.

Thanks for your replies.

"still sitting idley by, waiting around for dell to get off there @$$`s and get with the shipping on my 7800 gtx...Suffering thru another tortoureus day at work with my X1400" ....Most people, would jump for joy at the prospect of having an X1400 256 meg PCI-E video card, in there lappy...And yet, still i am depressed
Dell GET WITH THE SHIPPING!
YOU ARE KILLING MY GAMING MOOD
Well I went and got a Pentium m745 to drop into my XPS, It should be here saturday so I will be doing the pinmod then, hopefully it works without a problem. I know I am probably gonna have to voltmod it aswell for it to be stable but we will see, I will post back after all is said and done hopefully with good news
post #1136 of 1457
i did the 1.6~2.13 successfully too. i figure i'll pull the pin if it needs service. you should be fine as that is not a very agressive overclock. i actually undervolt mine, so they can't say i'm running hot. good luck!
im thinking about this mod... don't know if i want to spend the money
post #1138 of 1457
OK then, I appreciate all of your replies to my concerns. I have all the parts I need to do this mod except for the AS5. I bought some off Ebay but the seller was so slow in shipping that I just cancelled the order.

A lot of people are recommending that I mod my unit, save my 1.6 533 FSB chip and replace it if I need warranty service. Has anyone ever SUCCESSFULLY done this where their pin-modded i9300 needed to be returned to it's original state and sent into Dell for service? I am just curious if anyone had done this and been denied.

Thanks ...

There is no way they could tell if you put your old chip back in.
