I have FULLY tested my 1.6 -> 2.3 GHz pin-mod at just about every voltage using NHC and found that Prime95 fails at 1.196 volts (within 1 minute). On the positive side it will go all the way down to 0.700 volts on the low side.

Based upon this testing I am successfully running at 1.228v/0.700v.

After applying AS to the CPU my temps (under load) are in the 55c range and 44c unloaded ... is this normal?

I also applied AS to the GPU and my temps are typically around 53c to 55c ... is that normal or should I reapply the AS?

wow, i never went below .9v on my 2.13 mod. i'm not on my laptop right now, so i can't remember what my top voltage is for 2.13, but you should be happy with that. do you have it set to run full speed all the time or do you have dynamic switching on?

Dynamic switching was enabled both for A/C and battery use.

Hey guys, I just have a quick question that I hope someone can answer for me. I have everything I need for the 1.8->2.4 Pin Mod. Now, my question is this, I used a copper wire from an old surround sound speaker. The wires were stranded, and I just took a piece of one. Do y'all think that will be alright? Is there is a such thing as too small, and I have seen the wire pic, for reference of length of the wire, but does anyone have an approximate measurement? Any help will be appreciated. I hope to get it right the first time. Thanks.

did you see the picture of the wire on his finger? it is tiny. when you try to put it in you'll know if it is too long because it won't go in all the way. if that happens, just snip a bit more off of each side. you shouldn't have any questions once you try to put it in.

Hey guys, does anyone if you can do something with the cooling of the notebook, or is it pretty much just stock fans and Arctic Silver 5 as the only cooling options? Thanks. My stock temps right now with I8kfangui is 40 C for CPU. normal load. and for the gpu with nvidia, 53 C.

well, your temps are great. you can get a notebook cooler if those temps are uncomfortable for your legs, but you shouldn't worry about the temps hardware wise. you can also undervolt the cpu which will help somewhat with the temps and also help extend your battery time.

Please Help

Hey Guys, I need some help bad. I did the pin-mod, 1.8->2.4, and when I got it all together it booted up, and the first thing I noticed was that the screen was really light, then it did not make it past the welcome screen. I restarted and went into setup and looking in the bios, it shows clock speed 2.4, so I know it worked, but when I try and go through safe mode it scrolls through drivers and then locks up. I know I may need to volt-mod, and underclock and whatever, but how can I get back to do this, and did anyone else have this problem? If so, what did you do? Any suggestions?

That's a bit of a tough situation. No doubt you did the pinmod properly. But if you're having troubles booting due to instabilities, I don't know what to say short of a physical voltmod to get you through. You could try going in the bios and setting your speedstep to keep it on min in battery mode (if that's possible??) and then try running wihtout the ac power connected. But even then, booting windows is intense and it might clock you up to 2400 which will land you in trouble again. But if that doesn't work (I'm guessing it won't but if it does, !) you're going to have to take it apart again and voltmod it upwards

Ziddey, thanks for the help. It actually worked, I was able to load windows and pull up the desktop. But, my screen is still really really light, and you can hardly see the icons and words, which will make mod-ing using rmclock difficult. Do you have any ideas as to why my screen is like that, should I re-install the display drivers or do you think it is because of the processor. I will do the volt-mod, but I want to try and underclock it, and then volt-mod and relase the underclock. Does that sound like a good plan? Thanks.

Sounds like maybe you didn't plug in your cable for the lcd fully? I guess you'll have to go in there anyway to do the voltmod anyway since even if were able to underclock, that wouldnt take affect until after you booted into windows

doing the voltmod on V2 and V0 got me booted into windows with no hiccups at 2.4 Mhz. I ran prime95 torture test, and I got the following error after Test 2:

Test 64000 Lucas Iterations M19922945 and 945 using 1024K FTT Length

Fatal Error: Round was .498445, expected less than 4
Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt
Torture Test ran 5 minutes: 1 error, 0 warnings

Any ideas?

Also, the CPU Temp as the program runs gets to about 71 C, is that too high?
Also, the fan is quick to turn on, and man, the temp can jump high as soon as it is under heavy load. Is that to be expected as well? It idles at about 37 C, but then when I open a program or something I get the high fan burst at it jumps to like 50 or 60, then after the burst it goes back down.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

My i9300 originally came with a 1.6 GHz 533 FSB. I did a lot of research and decided that the lowest risk attempt would be the 1.6 GHz 400 FSB. The probability of a successful pinmod was reported to be at 95% or higher. I bought a chip off of ebay, did the mod and it works. The higher you go over 1.6 GHz the lower your probability of success.

Before you do anything follow Ziddey advice and ensure that your LCD is hooked up correctly. If so then consider removing the mod and replacing the chip and then rebooting. If the screen is back to normal then you must consider he possibility that the mod was unsuccessful.

It sure sounds like a connector issue. Good luck ...

I just wanted to let you know what effect the Voltmod has on CPU temps. Running my i9300 with pinmodded 2.13 GHz chip at default voltages my CPU runs at 63c. I then utilize NHC to run the chip at the lowest voltages that result in a stable system. In my case those voltages were 1.228v/0.700v. Running at these lower voltages during a Prime95 torture test results in a temperature drop of 7c (from 63c to 56c). I have not yet been able to measure the savings in battery life.

All-in-all I think these mods are well worth doing.

I did the 1.6>2.13. i was only worried about speed and the difference was very noticeable when working with video. something that used to take 30 minutes now takes maybe 20 min. the fact that i sold the original CPU on ebay for about what i paid for the newer slower cpu is just gravy.

755 765????????

Thnks to all! Successful upgrade from a Celeron 370 1.5ghz to almost 2ghz. Stable and going. Now Im thinking of changing the processor to a P-m. I did a search on ebay and found there are two that I like. The 755 and 765. Expensive ,but i want to FEEL the difference to what I have now. The question is, has anybody tried one of these before and if so, was it stable without any modifications(s/w based. i have no idea how to do it,thats why). Well, thnks again!
