Thnks for the reply. I was hoping a little bit more. Has anybody touched any of these processors or heard something? anything???

that sucks

Yeah, quite a few people have tried to pinmod the 765's and none have yet to get it stable. I think the 745's are about the best you can get now.

ya, the 1.7 seems reliable, i have a 1.6, and it is rock solid
post #1186 of 1457
Newest 1.6 => 2.13 pinmodder!

1.6->2.13

I just did the 1.6->2.3 upgrade, works great at stock voltage

Finally got my 1.7ghz to pinmod, after working on it for almost a week

why did it take you a week? did you have some problems?

I had alot of problems.

First, it wouldn't even boot at stock, as in at 1.7ghz

I would boot and get into the setup after the dell screen and it would show 2.26ghz, even though there was no pinmod in.

This was my first time doing a pinmod, so I sucked at it.

I finally got it to boot w/ volt mod, but it wasn't stable, so spent some time getting it stable.

It was a fustrating, yet enjoyable experience once I got it done. I'm by no means a computer expert, and I learned alot by reading these threads and actually doing it.

Add me to the list of 1.8 -> 2.4 pinmodders. I had to voltmod, and I'm running stable and strong. My first pinmod here as well, upgraded to 2gb of ram at the same time and I'll be installing my 7.2k 80GB this weekend.

(Oh, and hello guys, I just found the forum and I am very happy with it... I mean I have a 2.4Ghz Dothan thanks to this forum, of course I am happy with it)
Congrats...and welcome! i'm glad your 1.8 worked out for you. it has not been 100% successful on the 1.8 vs the 1.6, so enjoy it. btw, how are your temps with after the mod? Did you put some AS5 in there?

Is there any real definitive way to ensure that the mod worked

That was a rather long title so I'll make my preamble short and sweet: I just bought a 1.7 and did the pin-mod as per the instructions by whyowhy. I use Fangui to control system temps and it recognizes the mod (see pic1) as does Everest(see pic2), however, when I open CPUz it recognizes the 2.261ghz but then reverts to 798mhz (see pic3). Is this a normal occurrence for anyone else? I just want to make certain that I'm not being paranoid about the mod.

Any info. on the matter is welcome.

One last question: how much of a performance increase have the folks that have the same 1.7ghz CPU seen in doing the mod?

Thanks!

yes, it's called speedstep. it switches you between the max multiplier and the min (6x). back before you did the mod, it should have been 6x100=600mhz. now it's 6x133=798mhz.

wow, ziddey...you're quick!
That is good to know, and thanks for the speedy reply.

I'm considering buying a 1.8 CPU do mod...can anyone tell me if this CPU is ok to use for the CPUmod?

I see people who have used the 1.8 have has to voltmod...where did you guys get the info for which pins are used etc..to do the voltmod?

Im dying to try this...seems very straight forward...

Thanks!

That is the CPU you need, but the 1.8 is not a guaranteed successful mod.
Thanks for confirming...just wanted to make double sure...

I understand the risk with trying the 1.8 but I dont really think the 1.6 is worth the effort...maybe the 1.7, since Im running @ 2GHz already...

Ill see how bidding goes on eBay today...

Thanks
