A Photo Guide for Pin Modding 9300/XPS and Applying AS5 to GPU - Page 63

Hi Divine Madcap. I appreciate your info. I did try to do a volt increase by wiring the vid0 socket ( as recommended for 735 cpu in pin mod info at laptop logic) & still got BSOD. I put everything on hold & bought a 725,which I now have but haven't put in yet.
Couple of questions:
1) Did you notice any appreciable heat increase in jumping the voltage to 1.43--I've got a 7800gtx gpu mod & want to keep heat as low as possible.
2) When I checked my system specs on my 750( 1866 mhz) , it said max cpu speed supported by board 2000mhz. Is this a problem in trying to mod a cpu over 2ghz?? I haven't seen this mentioned in any pin mod info as a problem. Does it have any relevance??
Any info you or anyone on the board can give me will be appreciated. I'm tired of pulling this apart, so, if I can't get this to work the next time, I'm going to stick the 750 back in & live with it. Thanks

Hey 241comp---Had the same problem--turns out there were 2 more screws( 13 instead of 11). If I remember correctly, one is at the end of the battery compartment( bluetooth module cover at side of computer) & I think the other is at the corner of the memory cover(cd rom bay lock, has a little lock insignia by it). Hope this helps

Intel Celeron m350J 1300MHZ (13x100)
Dothan-1024
Moederbord Chipset Mobile Intel Alviso-G i910GML (i think)

thanks for the info

you have to take all the screws out of the bottom of the laptop too.

i have successfully pin-modded a pentium m 725... running at 2.13 @ 38 degrees celcius.

It's about time...

So I have been reading this thread for about a month now, trying to learn everything there is to know about pinmodding, AS5 applications and volting. I think I might have a decent grasp by now but I still had just a couple of questions before I order my 745 1.8 from ebay (I've been so tempted lately.) Any replies would only strengthen my knowledge and possibly prevent me from making a crippling mistake.

1. I know that a lot of you have had success with pinmodding the 1.8->2.4GHz. The better majority of you have had some very different results with the neccessary voltage. What jumpers should I try first when I drop the new cpu in? It looks like VID0 and VID2 seems to be the most common...or should I just try the chip without a voltage jumper first and Prime95 it for stability? Where do I start to get stable temps?

2. I plan on AS5'ing the cpu while I'm at it to keep the temps down, as well as doing the GPU as explained by the guide. Would it be smart to AS5 the RAM too? Correct me if thats a retarded idea, but I'm just trying to get another year or two out of my already-year-old 9300.

3. (sort of different subject) I've been getting myself ready for this mod. I'm running i9kfangui and NHC in the tray, but for some reason, i9k reports that my 750 is running at 1866 GHZ but NHC reports 798MHz at the same time. It's on NHC's Dynamic Switching Setting, idle at .700V and loaded at 1.356V. Did I do something wrong?

Thanks for the help guys, I won't ask too many more noob questions so don't worry. You guys are great and this thread is legendary.

I would just try the chip without volt mod and prime test it. If it pass a 8-12 hour test, I'd say it's good to go. If it doesn't pass then volt mod. Why volt mod if you don't have to?

No do not apply AS5 to your RAM unless you plan on putting heatsink on them, which isn't even doable as there's no room in the RAM housing, I don't think. The RAMs don't get that hot anyways.

word, thanks man. I forgot about the heatsink on the ram, it was just a thought anyway.

appreciate the help totalm,

Another one done here. Took my sweet time getting a CPU but,

1.7 > 2.26 31 deg C Idle No problems (other than sore eyes thats small wire) and no volt mod needed

For what its worth 3dmark5 went from 7K to 7.4K with stock dell drivers

Laptop feels much faster, very happy.

A big thank you!!

Ey yi yi. I'm doing the 1.7 pinmod on my 9300. So I did it, then restarted and I get this black screen that says something about new hardware,do I want to boot into safe mode. When I try to do anything , it locks up. So I've booted from the XP disk and some crazy way I'm able to get into windows and run my laptop like I normally would, but its slooooooooow. The CPU usage is always near 100%.

I can't figure this out. I'm going to re-install windows, and hope for the best.

The wierd thing is other than being sloooow, windows ran fine when I booted it up off the disk,no lockups or anything.

Anybody have ideas? Think I need a volt mod? I'm really at a loss and ready to just sell this chip on ebay. Thanks!!!!

saw same message "..invalid configuration.."

all you do is hit a key (either any key or escape, just last night but forgot alread!), then it will pop up to let you go into setup or boot normally (in setup you can see the processor speed)

thats it. You dont need to mess with the windows install disk

try it (without the windows disk in your drive) and see if it boots up.

(it perlexed me too, I was like WTF but just hit the keyboard) Good luck

(if you do need a voltmod K6s thread says how, think he said to try booting the processor without the pin mod first; but since you can get into windows I think your OK; download RMCLock and run it)

Thanks ZX81!

I did a windows repair, and now it's re-installing all of windows somehow, hellif Iknow why

After that, we'llsee what happens. I'll tear it apart and try a volt mod and see if I get lucky.

I bought the chip used off ebay, I'm wondering if maybe he sold it cuz he couldn't get the dang thing to mod either?!?!?
if its installing windows with the 1.7chip and the pin mod wire in, your not needing a voltmod just yet..when you reboot normally check setup (F2) to see what processor it says (to see if the wire pin mod worked) and download RMCLOCK and run it in windows - that'll show you the processor speed to

Well so far so good! After that windows fix or re-load or whatever the heck it did, I'm glad to say I'm typing on my new 2.26 Pentium M 9300! With a little luck, that's all I need. I think I'm out of the woods! WOo hoo! I don't have to tear it apart again!!!

Thanks again ZX81!

I wonder if there's anyway to know how much faster my computer is compared to a stock 1.6 now? Anybody done any comparison testing? I've read about 15 pages on this thread, and I just don't have the heart to read all 42. Actually I don't mind, I just wish I knew how to read them all on one page, instead of hitting the next page button 42 times.

I'm with you as well on Tiger, ZX81. I even kicked them a few bucks on the macvidia project to help em out. I hope they get QE soon!!!!! Until then, I just think the mac os on my 9300 isn't worth it.

Hey congrats!

that "..invalid configuration.." is a heart stopper

1.73>2.26 feels subjectively much faster

Cheers!

GRRRRRRRRR this thing is working my nerves. When I try to reboot, it freezes up just after the bios? whatever screen that is where you can hit f2 or f12. It goes to an all black screen and just sits there, or has a blinking cursor at the top of the screen.

So when I hit F2, it freezes. I tried hitting F12, then telling it to boot from the harddrive, and it boots, but its still going sloooooowly loading. Wierd!

I think I'm going to try and restore from a ghost backup and see if I have better luck with that. Or try and re-install XP. I think the prob is with XP, not the processor.

That's my guess so far anyway

Hi all,

it's my first post here..

I've bought a xps gen 2 in july 2005 from a reseller on ebay.
Now i'd like to upgrade the videocard but i would know if it's possible to install a 7900gtx in the xpsGen2.....

p.s: What's the price for a Go 6800 ultra used?

Thx a lot...
