So, would a 1.7 pin modded to a 2.26 be faster then the 1.73 centrino?

They are all using Centrino technology. But, yes, if you take a 400 MHz FSB 1.7 GHz Pentium M and pinmod it to 533 MHz FSB with 2.26 GHz, it's going to be significantly faster.

Will a used SL7EP work for a pinmod? I'm kind of hesitant about buying it used, but the seller said it is pulled from a working unit. Not sure where to find a new one under $100.

A friend of mine just recently got a 745 and we tried to pinmod it. We gave it nearly 1.6 volts and it wouldn't even POST. So, you can try the 745 but I'm not going to guarantee that it will overclock at all. Basically, the lower the clock speed is on the CPU you get, the greater your chances are for a stable overclock. Good luck with your decision.
There are a few P-M 755 chips out there that have been succesfully OC'd by pin-mod with a volt-mod. I bought mine here in the FS forum a while back, and it runs stable at 1.468v (have to ground VID4 then back off at startup with NHC). It's fast, but runs warmer than I would prefer - 68C after several hours of Prime95 with fans on high.

I love the speed, but would trade down to a 1.8 > 2.4 chip that did not require volt mod for the thermal advantages.

68 degrees isn't too bad. My 745 at 1.388 volts can hit around 65 degrees while gaming.

I hit 69 with your mom! whooaa!!

I found this tutorial and was floored, so I ran home, grabbed my Dell 600m with the 725 (1.6 Ghz proc) and ripped it apart, replaced the thermal pads with artic silver and pin-modded it! Turned it on and voila! Still 1.6 Ghz. I took it apart again to double check the pin and it is right. Even used B16 instead of C15 to ground it, but it did not work. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks...

You need 915M chipset or a 533MHz chipset, yours is 855 which only supports 400MHz.

Touchpad and front buttons not working. Please help!

First off, thanks to all the people who are keeping this forum alive. I was able to do a 1.6-> 2.13 overclock on my i6000 without any problems. But after restarting the system and checking the speed and all, my toch pad and the front button (ones u use to control volume, play etc) is nto working. I reinstalled the drivers, but still no use. But my keyboard is fine and i am using a usb mouse for now. Does someone have any idea how to approach this problem? Thank you very much!

Are you sure you didn't perhaps leave that little cable unplugged when putting the palm-rest plastics back on?

You forgot to plug in the connector that connects the touch pad and front media buttons to the motherboard. Pull your keyboard back off and you can get access to plug that connector back in.

Thank you very much. I completly overlooked that!http://www.notebookforums.com/images...smiley-016.gif My laptop was running really hot, constantly over 63C, so i did the undervolting and now its much better, around 45C idle. Also can any one recommend good laptop coolers? I have a generic 3 fan cooler, but it hardly does anything to help with the heat under the laptop. Thanks a lot!

That CPU should go right into a 9300 or XPS2.

Yes, if you have a 400Mhz CPU and a 915 chipset, you can pinmod it.
