Some advice please.
I have a 9300 Inspiron with 1,6 533 dothan. I recently got on ebay a m735 (1,7 400 mhz fsb dothan). I tried pin modding, all went right in bios, 2,26 Ghz. Got into Windows (XP) and few seconds after blue screen. I tried volt pin modding (vd0, vd1 and vd2, even vd& vd2 and vd3) same result, blue screen. Each tile Blue screen shows "problem seems to be caused by following file : 'http.sys page_fault_in_nonpaged_area' ".
Another thing : temp showing by i8fanGUI at Windows startup is high, around 50C (usually I start with about 30C with 'original' 1,6. Strange thing, I may enter Windows in safe mode and use some programs, like Everest, for some time without problem (I didn't try too far). I tried to use the m735 without pin modding and same blue screen quickly after entering windows although again all seems fine in bios (1,7 dothan, memory at 400 mhz). I'd say that cpu overheated once and since got 'sick'. What's your opinion ? Thanks !

Something is probably wrong with the CPU since you can't even boot into Windows without the pinmod.

i have everything ready for the pin mod, but i'm not sure how long the wire is suppose to be. i have a 0.5 cm copper wire from a phone line bent into U shape so far. will that be too small? any advice would be appreciated.

ok, i have successfully pin modded to 2.26. the only problem i'm concerned about is the video card. when i was attempting to put as5 on the cooling assembly, i unseated the whole card and separated it from the cooling assembly. there were a total of three pieces, and i kind of forgot where the smallest piece is supposed to be placed, i don't have pictures but its shaped like this )=( . currently, i have the cooling assembly on top of the video card, and the smallest piece below the video card. the dell documentation does not have pictures of the piece i'm talking about. can anyone confirm if i put them all back together correctly? thanks.

What kind of card do you have? I don't think I've seen 3 separate pieces on either the ATI or nVIDIA.

I have a 6800 go
to be more precise about the shape, it looks like the CPU's heatsink, but it feels like plastic and it has a hole in the middle, approximately the size of GPU's core. I have this piece under everything (cooling assembly on top of GPU chip, and the piece i described under the chip to secure the GPU heatsink screws). Everything has been prime stable for 12 hrs, max cpu load temp 55 and gpu temp 45.

ahh, nvm i finally found a picture of what i was talking about. seems like i assembled it back together correctly.

this mod looks pretty sweet. i'm wondering if it will work on the core 2 duo 2.0GHz that I have in my 9400?
not a pin mod, it has to be a specific cpu and some of those don't even work. i dont think the core duo cpu even has pins to mod? my Pentium d is pinless anyway, i have yet to take apart my m1710 and remove the cpu though, but i am sure this pin mod will not work
post #1334 of 1473
ahh well, i guess if i really want to get a boost down the road i could always try to find a T7600 to replace the T7200 I have.
ya, this is mainly just for people who still have the old cpu's, or the old 9300/6000

Ok guys. I read 14 pages of this thread and it was starting to get repetitive, and I got exams to study for lol.

I have currently a M750 (1.86GHz, 533MHz FSB). The increase to 2.13 from 1.6 isn't much, but if I can do it for free by selling my old 1.86GHz that'd be cool. OR do you think I should take my chances with a 1.7? Are there people on this board selling ones that have been confirmed for the pin mod?

My main problem is wtf am I gonna sell my 1.86 to? I've never sold anything on ebay before...
personally i would go for the 1.6. the performance gain you would get from the 1.7 is minimal and the added uncertainty of it working or needing to be volt moded is a concern for me. selling is no problem, but having paypal is a good idea and if you have good ebay feedback add a link.
oh, and the first few pages are plenty to know the deal
post #1339 of 1473
Well I've never sold anything on ebay. Don't you need a paid membership for that? Who's gonna buy from me with 0 feedback lol. I guess I could sell it on forums but that would take a lot more time. And I dunno man 1.86 -> 2.1 is only 14% increase while it's 24% to 2.26...

I'm either gonna try and find a friend with a 1.7 or try and find a store around here that I could return the chip to if it doesn't work.

Ok, guys well curiosity has gotten the best of me after seeing this thread on the board for so long and reading it here and there. I've got a 9300 with Chipset 915GM/915PM and a 1.73 PM in there at the moment. I'm checking out ebay for PM 1.6's, I'm guessing this is the most stable without having to volt-mod.

Here's a link to what I think I need, a PM 725, 478 pin. http://cgi.ebay.com/INTEL-Pentium-M-...QQcmdZViewItem

Does that look like it'll work?

If so, I've seen people using aluminum and copper wiring. What kind of gauge of copper wire and what seems to be a readily available source for that gauge, ie. phone wire or something?

Thanks for the guidance, as always!!
