I have the P-M 730 that come with 533 fsb can't it be reduced to 400 fsb by just putting the mod in BSEL[1] to VSS?

Now that there is a pic guide I think I am going to apply Artic Silver 5 to my CPU and GPU, thanks, a 8 C decrease is worth it.

You need to explain this mod a bit clearer IMO. The thread header mentions both I9300 & XPS2. (both are 533fsb PCs) So what I think your doing is replacing the stock 533Mhz CPU with a new 400Mhz CPU, and then applying the Pin mod (wire) your tricking it to run at 533Mhz for a nice little overclock?

If this is not what your doing, then clarify.....


What we need is a mod to make our stock CPU run at say 566Mhz or so...

If it hasn't been pointed out yet, when cleaning the thermal adhesive off the GPU/CPU, its best to use isopropyl alcohol. It will clean the surfaces really well which will ensure smooth application of AS5 and proper contact of the HSF with the CPU/GPU.

I meant to say that also. And the surface of any cooler should be as flat and smooth as possible, no scratches. I hand lap my desktop coolers with up to 2000 grit wet paper for a mirror finish. In the perfect world we'd have perfect metal to metal contact, no paste needed. But in this world we have pits and valleys, etc. But the smoother the finish, the better the metal to metal and less paste is needed so it works better!

OKay forgive the nOOb'ish question, but I am waiting for this Laptop to arrive (although I only got the 2.0 processor not the 2,13). What is it that this mod accomplishes? From the way you folks are talking it is something VERY obvious to most people in this forum, but maybe you guys can explain it in a way that makes it clear to me what this Mod is giving you in terms of addition to your processing speed, or whatever?

I have edited the post to include the alcohol suggestion. The coolers DEFINITELY needed to be lapped, but i didn't want to get into that. i will edit it to state they should be lapped and look elsewhere. I will try to add a more concise definition of what this does in the first paragraph, I think it is readily apparent.

This mod accomplishes taking a cheap, low speed 400 fsb CPU and turning it into a cheap, 533 fsb CPU. If you already have a 2, it probably isn't worth your while, unless the 1.8's are found to work fine at 2.4. If that is the case, then you should sell your 2.0 and but a 1.8 and make some money on the swap and have a faster CPU

I wonder if it would be possible to replace the aluminum heat sink for the 6800go in the 9300 with a copper heat sink, that would also help the heat and allow for higher overclocks for more bragging rights

We need some more people to try the mod with the 1.8 for a 2.4oc and I'd like to see some benchies(stress testing too) comparing the stock 2.0/533 to the newly modded 2.4Ghz cpu. Who's up for it?
I've spent too much already on my desktop San Diego/DFI upgrade to experiment myself.
