My recollection is it was a bit tight. If you are positive the screw is in the right position, you should be able to pry GENTLY with a small flat blade screwdriver and see if it moves.

By the way, I am less than satisfied with this "Photo guide to pinmodding".

Is it a Photo GUIDE or a referral?
Show some pics of what to do after the first pic or point DIRECTLY to what Dell tells you to do, don't hint at it...

Sorry you can't spend a little effort and figure it out. There is no need to rewrite the whole Dell service guide when it is completely adequate. I have shown pictures of everything you need that is not in the guide. Since the dozens of other people have successfully figured it out and it has been stickied, I would say it works OK.

Ouch! definately NOT feelin' the love here lol

I can imagine a tourist guide referring to other publications for the wanted information thereby not being much of a guide at all, more a referrer.
So maybe I sounded just a teensy weensy too unfriendly, sorry 'bout that.
Hehe, but if you're not actually making a complete guide to cover what you say, is it too much to ask for a little url to point to the service manual?

tijgert: It is not too much to ask, that is why I have it linked right there at the beginning of the post. It is labeled Dell technical docs for the 9300.

rarar: i would like to hear from you too, since we corresponded so many times by PM

And thanks all for the rep points...

Thanks for the pin mod info Why0Why

I got my 1.6 9300 about 3 weeks ago, did the mod yesterday with a 1.7 I got off ebay and am now running at 2.26

the mod itself was quite easy and the whole thing took me about 1:45 which would have been shorter but i managed to strip a couple of the screws on the display hinge which lengthened the process

ran super pi and for the 1M calc posted 32sec

however now when I run the driver set up tool from Nvidia to update my display drivers it says

"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your hardware. Setup will now exit."

When I try to update the driver from the hardware manager, it tells me it cant locate a newer driver in the folder I specify. I would really appreciate it if someone could explain how to resolve this as I dont want to do the whole pin mod in reverse just to update my video card...

^^^

You need to get a patched .inf file, it has nothing to do with your pin mod!!!

Martian is correct. Go to www.laptopvideo2go.com and get a patched .nfo there. They have instructions too.

thx guys, i grabbed the .inf file and sorted that out, the power settings issue also resolved itself after running thru the set up utility for that function

is there any other application issues that will come up as a result of doing the pin mod?

biz: Not sure why you had the issues, but the pin mod has no effect on those things. No issues should be seen unless the processor didn't like the speed. Everyone seems to be having great success with the 1.7 though.

screws...

any idea if the M2.5 x 5mm screws are available from local stores or only from Dell?

I tried Fry's Electronics with no luck...

1. Open mouth.
2. Insert foot.

I see the url now and boy, is my face red (well, purple)... hehe, so, how 'bout that Bears game huh?

Guess this sign should be slightly below me ->

Uhm... since you know your way around Dell's site so well, would you mind putting up the url for the XPS 2 as well?

(I checked and I'm pretty sure it's not in the SP )

Just another pinmod success story

My 6000D is now 2.13 ghz.

Idle 28 C.
Full load 49 C (Prime95 and MPEG2 encoding).

16 minutes of DV AVI converted into mpeg2 in 20 minutes.

Voltage 1.26 V stable.

Thank you all!!!!
