That is without volt mods. I tried a 1.7, and couldn't get into windows So got a 1.6 and worked perfectly
Hmm, so really, I could buy a 1.7, pinmod it, if it won't boot into Windows, I can just "un pinmod it" and run it at 1.7GHz until I could get a 1.6?

Correct. That's exactly what I did. I had sold my 533fsb 1.6 (came with the 9300) already, so when my 1.7 wouldn't pin mod, I just used it "normally" (400fsb, no pin-mod) for a week or so until I could get a 400fsb 1.6.

Yes, it works.. another 1.6 -> 2.13 happy pin modders here
Thanks to guide

Congrats! Feels good doesn't it?

I forgot to mention I did a 1.7 to 2.26 pin mod. It is working great. I bought the processor from newegg as i didnt want to take a chance with ebay.

Nice! I hear ya about the wire. I spent the most time making the wire and making sure that it fits (not too long not too short). I had to use the wife's tweaser to insert the wire into the socket. I used strand of copper wire from a home speaker wire.

Finally got the courage to do mine. I am sitting pretty at 2.13 ghz and my wife was more than willing to downgrade to 1.4 ghz from 1.6. Heck she just checks internet...

did my Inspiron 6000 this morning, P 1.5 715 400fsb but when I run CPU-Z there's no change... still same CPU has before.. but the multiplier field seem to be flickering to X15 but there's nothing else that change..

maybe I done it wrong or used a wrong piece of wire...

Download Centrino Hardware Monitor and see what it says (has a different name now).

Windows will still detect it as a 1.5Ghz, as it just reads the chip info, not what it's actually doing.

jesus

I did the pinmod earlier tonight - took about 3 hours altogether as I wanted to make sure I didn't **** anything up. Didn't bother with any compound but it ended up making the cpu temp go up to 50C maximum under a sustained heavy load which I reckon is acceptable. Having the ATi x300 probably helps bring the temp down quite a bit.

What a difference it makes though.. went from a 1.73 up to 2.13 and Cubase SX runs SO much better. Projects that were peaking at 100% cpu use now use about 30-35% cpu. Now all I gotta do is get the dvdrw hard disk caddy bay for my recently ordered 40gb 7200rpm hard disk and I'm set!

You have got to be kidding me, you didnt use ANY thermal interface compound? Great way to fry your chip, you might want to check on that if you want to keep your laptop for more than 6 months.
HELL yeah. I pinmodded my SL7EP 1.7 to a 2.23 Ghz. I never did anything like pinmodding before and I am ****ing ecstatic.
Hmm you could be right - I just ordered Arctic compound as I'm getting some odd freezes even though the cpu temp isn't even getting up to 35C at the moment.

Finally went the distance myself as well The second time I did it, it only took 15 min (first time, for some stupid reason, I put the 1.6/533 back in So on reboot (with the wire in place) it wasn't happy at first Replaced it and put the 1.7 in - only 15 min the second time. It's really not difficult.

I used AS5 on the CPU, but didn't do anything with the GPU - it's still under warranty. If I ever need to do repairs on it, either I'll convince them to let me, or I'll buy some thermal tape (might not be the exact same, but it will be close enough). Since I don't OC the video, I really don't need to do it.

So far it's rock solid at 2.26Ghz!! Awesome. Battery length has decreased a bit, but I'm testing that now to see how close it is. I may try undervolting it - make up the difference If I can get anywhere near 3hrs, I'll be happy.

And - recently the prices on ebay have dropped drastically. Got the 1.7 shipped for $119 - used to be tough to find it less than $150+

Hi,I've got a Pentium Celeron M (1,3Ghz,400FSB and 1M of L2 cache)
I've complete successfully the wiring mod but nothing change:
1,3ghz,400FSB

Does anyone have an idea ?

Edit:After 21 pages of reading, i know why doesn't work :/

He doesn't say what laptop he has, but I would say it is not a 915M chipset.

It is not a real Dothan, it is a Celeron with 1MB Cache. He is probably the first to try it.
