A Photo Guide for Pin Modding 9300/XPS and Applying AS5 to GPU - Page 40

post #781 of 1473
I got the 1.6 2MB Cache processor for 120 shipped off of ebay. I went with the higher success rate over a small performance boost. I have the
AS5 in the mail and will overclock my GPU as well. I can't wait.

Hooah! My 1.6 arrives today!!!
post #783 of 1473
did i send that wire to you? did you get it? did anyone get them yet? i sent out anout 40, so someone should have gotten them by now?

oh, and you dont actually "overclock" the cpu you trick it to run @ 533 insted of 400 fsb. i dont believe it strains the cpu at all, i know mine runs about 10 deg. c cooler now under load
post #784 of 1473

No worries, I have to wait on Dell to ship out my 7800GTX anyways, and they aren't set to ship it until Jan. 9th, and then I chose free shipping of slow snail mail :P

I really want to get the better video card to build the best i9300 possible, but I don't really need it
post #788 of 1473
Ya I don't really need it either, but geeze man, $143 for my 6800nu, $185 for my 6800ultra, why not pay another $85 and not have to worry about upgrading anymore :P

Now, I just need to sell my 1.86 cpu, my x300 / 6800nu and 6800ultra.. oh joy.

im not selling mine, just to make sure i keep my waranty, paid for 2 years

Hmm, but the thing is, since I bought the part through Dell under my service tag number, surely they know I'm putting it in my system ?

OH, just got your wire woodstock! Thanks
post #792 of 1473
FYI, I chatted with a Dell rep and asked her about the whole warranty thing. She said that upgrading the processor will in no way void your warranty, your new CPU simply will not be covered.
post #793 of 1473
What I may do with my 533FSB processor is buy an ASUS mobo and adapter to put it in and OC that sucker. That way I'll still have it if Dell gives me any BS about not having it, and I'll have a nice upgrade to put in my POS 5 yr old AMD Athlon 800mhz desktop.
post #794 of 1473
um, that sounds cool, you can use a pent.m in a desktop, didnt know that

W00T!! THANKS WOODSTOCK!! Your wire was JUST long enough, because I lost 3 of the damn things I made... they're that small. And then the 4th was too big, so i had to cut it, but it works GREAT. OH YA! 1.6@2.13!! w00py!

I also took my X300 64MB out and put in the 6800 Go I got in today (placeholder only, soon the big poppa 7800GTX will arrive!)
post #796 of 1473
My X300 64MB / 1.86 combo got me the following using Far Cry Benchmark (I also had AVG, AdAware and Spybot performing full system scans at the same time):
Resolution: 1024×768
Maximum quality option, Direct3D renderer
Level: Pier, demo: 1.tmd
Pixel shader: model 3.0
Antialising: 8×
Anisotrophic filtering: 16×
HDR: disabled
Geometry Instancing: disabled
Normal-maps compression: disabled

Score = 11.28 FPS (Run 1)
Score = 11.00 FPS (Run 2)
Average score = 11.13 FPS

My 2.13 / 6800 Go got me this:
Score = 27.33 FPS (Run 1)
Score = 33.68 FPS (Run 2)
Average score = 30.50 FPS

Oh, and my cpu temp maxed at 49C on load with the 2.13/ 55C for 6800 go... Can't wait to get my 7800GTX

I lost one "near" my computer when it was open . . . I shook it but nothing fell out so I'm assuming it wasn't in there. No noises either, that's a good sign I suppose.
post #799 of 1473
man, thats scary, i didnt drop any, well my bro did it so he didnt. i need to take my computer apart to install my new uxga screen soon. what a pain
post #800 of 1473
Hehe, so you went ahead and bough the WUXGA screen ;-) I consider myself lucky that I don't have light leakage or any dead pixels, so I'm sticking with my WXGA+.
