Why haven't I discovered this before!!!???

Just bought my new 1.6 off ebay UK for £45 (anyone on here from UK) and can't wait to receive it

The only thing worrying me is finding the correct wire. Is a single strand from Cat 5E too big? Because it's quite a bit thicker than a single strand from a desktop molex connector wire.

Anyone?

Cat5 is WAY to big. You wouldn't even be able to get the processor in. Just pull a strand from anything: speaker wire, old power wire, lamp cord, anything stranded.

Okay, pardon my n00bishness, but assuming THIS is the right type of Pentium M 1.6 400 MHz fsb processor that can be easily pin-modded, if I buy that for $40 and then sell my Pentium 730 1.6 533 fsb on Ebay, I could actually make some money on this upgrade, right?

I've been thinking about doing this for a long time, but I figure if I could actually make some money doing this upgrade, what am I waiting for?

You would want a DOTHAN core one which as 2mb Cache. that is an older banias with 512k. You'll be actually downgrading yourself

Ahhh, that's the catch. Didn't even notice the Cache size! Thanks, I'll keep looking around.

Can someone help me keep a lookout for a 1.8Ghz, 400FSB, 2MB L2 Dothan on eBay?

I'm looking to do the pin mod, so I figured I'd do it with a 1.8 Ghz CPU. I think the 1.8 will give me ~2.4Ghz speeds? I am hoping there will not be a big heat problem with my i9300.

Just to report another successful pin mod. this time on inspiron 6000, celeron M350 1.3Ghz now @ 1.7Ghz. Booted right up, no problemos..

I could not wait for my Dothan 725 to arrive this week

Thanks for a great thread.
