Forcing dos games to stay native or fixed aspect

Hi,

I have a few dos games that I love that run well on my i9300 but I cant get them to either behave as I set in the Bios or as I have set in the 6800 control panel as far as widescreen goes. Masters of Orion2, Advanced Civ, and RR Tycoon I. Anyone found a way to get these to run in a fixed aspect or in their original resolution. Prefer the former since RRTycoon will be very small..

have you tried dosbox? it's really customizable. I remember using it to play Quest for Glory and managing to get it to the right aspect ratio.

I will give it a try. I used it for my PDA before, never had to for a "real" PC.

I love turned based games on my laptop, and some of the best ones are a decade or more old.

Railroad (or did you mean Roller Coaster?) Tycoon 1 may not be playable on a widescreen computer.

Try looking up solutions here

The number of 'recent' games that are on my top 10 list isn't so high. I just think games had better production value in the early to mid 90s... it wasn't a huge business as it is now (with EA basically flogging it's employees to produce as many games as possible). No, back then people actually cared about it....

RRT, of the ones I listed that was the only one I havent actually tested. My memory arrived and I am running memtest. No biggy if it doesnt. I have RRT3 already installed on the laptop although I do love the original.

Two good non-dos turn based strategy games that run excellent on the widescreen are civ 3 (I have conquests version) and Age of Wonder: Shadow Magic. AOW worked "as is" and civ 3 I had to add "keepres=1" to the ini file.

Just wish I could get the bottom scoller to scroll the civ 3 map horizontally the way the side scroller makes it move vertically.

I tried dosbox. It works as far as fixing the aspect ratio, but performance is abysmal. I am going to keep looking for a non-emulated solution that just runs the dos games in a fixed aspect ration dislpay.
