Fair Warning: "LONGWINDED" about 2 Peak
Hello, first I need to tell everybody out there that I am writing this post with the best voice activation software I ever owned or ever thought existed……… did the initial installation on only a couple of hours ago, have yet to have it learn some of my idiosyncratic thingies. It is the newly released Dragon preferred version 9 and it
makes everything else look like garbage. Sometimes, you get what you pay for.
Fair warning, people aspiring to be software: “Longwinded” is about to peak. In the future, it will abate.

Bug:
First, I have a deep conviction that one of the reasons you are upset with me is because after you were generous enough to share a very lengthy and hugely detailed account of your personal history and I became insightful and upset about your version of my country right or wrong, your version of being a good soldier and … and with these onboard, you’re about to be sent into harms way for WHAT?… justifiably upset me which I had the courage & heart to communicate. I knew before I did, that you didn’t want to hear it and that it would wreak havoc with your current investments. I am sure it did and I can feel that you are hurt and angry because of it

…. No matter what else. But I regret not a word of it; I have to live with myself.
Second, if my threads are too dense, their content elusive or daunting or boring in any way… then you too should not read them. After all, life is linear and simple, right? And succinct? Bpottom line-oriented? Doctrinaire? AND MY THREADS apparently VIOLATE ALL THESE rules!
When I came upon a long thread of yours, which indicated that you have the insight, the depth and the conviction to call a member on a certain post, and in detail....I was joyously moved to post a response of praise which was heartfelt. The length of that particular post was moot; as always, the content was everything.
Next, and I am so impressed that Arch is whole enough to know this… anybody who buys into black-and-white that any being is, or should be is always right or an absolute figure of authority (can you say FASCIST?) … well, that’s a HUGE giveaway for terror and insecurity, forget dangerously simplistic convictions. But it also comports with my country right or wrong. Very scary stuff.
And so, I find it disturbing. As do most people. I hope you are moved to ponder.
Bug, you EVEN accused me of owning the premise that you can’t “defend oyour own honor!” After a jocular offering of warmth from me! Talk about raw…… then too, when I took the time to share that I had finally found out why my new bios didn’t let me disable my touchpad…..and that Fn+f10 didn’t work for me as it did for you…….from AW (bless them) because you and I have different Sentias, and I learned how the touchpad can be disabled in all models & posted all the info here…..I sensed even this violated your comfort zone….that I made this contriubtion. this...is NOT A CONTEST.
I’m delighted you came forth and offered Joe the zip file, THAT was my hope though no way was I about to ask you on his behalf. I also know you need to feel like the hero and the caped Crusader… so in this case that is not all bad. But again, for secure people, life is NOT A CONTEST.

Arch!!!
Okay first, I happily apologize for not having understood that the reference to an apology prefacing your (sorry, it was) unjustified assault ,was actually an apology… I thought if it was any kind of actual apology you would have deleted the assault which followed. Makes SENSE, YES?
Having said that, know that I’m VERY impressed by your wholeness in not needing to be a coward’s version of some figure of authority, your being able to even celebrate that you are often wrong just like the rest of us, and no more a perfect human than anybody, forget life would be no fun if we were perfect humans!
And…I still stand by my posted response. The only reason, if you read it again, that I raised the issue of Uniwill’s 1.10 bios update versus AW’s 1.07…. is obvious: I could not reconcile the disparity. It still doesn’t mean that I have some kind of lust for any version of a bios beyond what I now have---though I considered getting it without knowing anything about it…. nor did I ever even postulate in my own mind that Dell would be coming forth with anything like this, much less say that.
Again, if you read my original post what I said was that there are basically two or three manufacturers worldwide for mobos and LCDs….that all the inane manufacturers now just assemble the parts themselves or someone else does it for them. This was not always the case. I have an old Toshiba laptop from the halcyon days in the 90s…. I was second owner as usual, this puppy cost over three K. when it was new, made when things were still made with integrity and pride, to last…and magnificently. When the world is too much with me, I get it out and boot it, and it restores me.
I was responding to a simplistic statements from a member saying Dell is good for support, but not for quality except for its business machines. The truth is no computer made now for the average consumer is anything to be proud of; it is what it is…. and there are no exceptions, not anymore. Ironically, AW may be the only one given given it is the most overpriced of ALL compared with its inherent quality. And----I totally stand by my statement that Dell is going to have an ongoing positive effect on everything that is wrong with AW. Dell is not stupid; they made a huge risky capital investment they have no intention of endangering. I knew it when the Dell techie told me that as we speak, Dell was in the process of intensive training of AW’s entire support team… that good things were on the way. That is my prediction and I stand by it.
But mainly, Arch, I am grateful for your response, respect you for it. There ain’t nothing better than honest efforts from intact humans… and no you didn’t hit any raw nerves… it was just an unjustified assault and so it hurt the way things like that are supposed to, I am not into false pride. And HOW COULD ANYONE ASSUME I DON’T GET YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS OR THE LEVEL OF YOUR INVOLVEMENT? Talk about wrongheaded premises!
Thanks again, Arch
Jilly

Now, some general , PC-related observations generated by these unexpected events…just in case this is my last post.
I wish everyone would keep in mind that we are all OWNERS of technology meant to serve us as humans. We are not software. And make no mistake about it, technology and its truncations have hurt us: our attention spans are limited, we have lost touch with the flow of life and the natural world; we write in shorthand, we miss the music, even our actual brains have changed physiologically because we try to get information scrolling through windows on a monitor. Ask Benjamin Carson, M.D., chief of pediatric neurology at Johns Hopkins--- which he was when he was 33. Unlike any piece of technology any human will ever be able to develop….not even close to the ballpark… the human brain, in potential can process one million pieces of data…. A second.
Now, think about this: the most singularly successful series of books addressing technology… which gave more people than we will ever know, who might never have, an opportunity to own computer skills…. was the this or that For Dummies series. The reason it was and continues to be so successful, is it honors the human being…. Long-winded, ad hoc, informal, warmth & humor interjected throughout….. kind of like the opposite of texting. It also honors were really live: not in some dry cognition, but in our unfathomable, rich viscera. It is notable that even in NOT SINFUL WARS, THE GOAL OF THE MILITARY IS TO DESTROY INDIVIDUALITY and empathy (feeling) in order to render the subject obedient and efficient killing machine. Nobody disputes this. The ancient guys who survived WWII who we see weeping on TV while offering their accounts of identifying with victims of the Nazis.....and the horror of war....are my heros. Weeping is the ultimate act of courage....also not a part of XP Pro or Vista....or, alas, normal life these days. I think we are in need of a BIOS FLASH, ok?
Now, let us all try to learn from all this…harvest the many goodies lurking…some, very subtle; look within…another act of courage….and be colleagues and friends, learn from and help each other, try to honor accurate data, not make life a contest.... and sometimes mount passionate, productive disputes/debates as well.
And please….nobody unconsciously expect anyone to either be perfect , SOFTWARE ..OR to dumb down……we are better than that, yes?
Finis for now......
