External IDE enclosure / connection help???

Thread Starter
Does anyone have any clue here? I would really like to use any or all IDE products with my laptop. I've read this article; http://www.tomshardware.com/mobile/20041206/index.html

...but can't seem to locate one of these...

Any input is appreciated

External USB/FW hard drive enclosures are everywhere. The item in the page your second link points to is nothing more than an external USB hard drive adapter with the "enclosure" part.

Look on eBay or just about any computer store.

never get kingwin products, they are absolute crap, i have 1 myself and the bandwidth is HORRIBLE on their enclosures, this has been verified by a bunch of prople that have bought the same thign as me.

tigerdirect.com has tons, same with new egg

For argument's sake, I have nothing but KingWin hard drive accessories and they all work great.

Anyone know if USB 2.0 is fast enough to edit on? i.e. editing right on the external harddrive?

Most likely.

USB 2.0 is 480Mbps = 40MBps. USB 1.1 is even good enough for some things (ie.: text files, office files, 2d bitmap and vector image editing, storing email, etc.)
