5680 & The DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive speed issues - Page 2

Well, I'm using Roxio 5.5.10j (the latest of everything for they 5.x.x product. They now have a version 6 but I haven't used it. I've never used CloneCD. However, Roxio shows the write speed in realtime and it starts off 8x/9x and slowly makes its way to about 12x but that's it.

Can you burn DVDs? I'm really bummed about that.

oh, to answer your other question, yes, i've performed several full CD burns. the average write speed is 9x.

CDRW

To recomment, as previously posted on another thread, i have a 5660 which has a Samsung Combo Drive.

I run linux exclusively, was running my drive with SCSI emulation to be able to burn on it and 8/10 X is the fastest i have ever see this drive burning a full cd.

Now that i run a 2.6 kernel, and with recent version of burning software, burning to the IDE interface is supported....never mind the less.

Same results, the drive is sold for 24X Write, identifies as so too, but hey, no matter what, even raw mode, can't get nothing faster than 8 to 10 X. Sad.

Hmm.. Thats weird. Fuji CD-Rs work well with my Toshiba S-R2512. The burn averages at 16x, while it starts at 8x and ends at 24x. Hmm...

P.S. Funny how no one posted when I initially had the problem, and now everyone is interested .

Ok. I apparently have the wrong drive. Here's what Sager support says:

"Hi, the Toshiba 6012 is 1x DVD-RW drive. We need to replace the drive for you. The Toshiba DVD-RW only supports DVD-RW format. The drive will not write to a DVD+RW blank disc. We will send you a 2x DVD-RW drive with Nero CD. Please try the 2x DVD burner to see if it can burn CDs at 24x speed."

I don't guess I understand the designation of the + and - following the DVD. Anyway, when I get it, I'll post my results.

Ouch! Holy crap. How could this happen? Just stuck the wrong thing into the machine? LOL.

+ and - things are two competing standards of DVD recordables/rewritables.

Hey guys. To help people with finding good-burning media I started a compatibility list for the Toshiba drives. Here is the thread: http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=16668 .
