looks good, Adam! It's on a higher clock than the Z71v (which makes sense from Clevo. they tend to go for more performance), but 7.9 pounds?! That's really heavy for a 15 inch notebook. That's almost the weight of the Dell 9300 17". Oh, well. Everything else is good, but that's the dealbreaker for me. I'll keep my Z71v. Slightly lower benchmarks and battery life, but over a pound lighter.

That's is a great looking laptop! This is very exciting, now I have more choices to choose from....

I'm wondering if the 6-cell battery will be offered along the line, and if the heat problems of the 3790 have been rectified..these factors alone will decide between this and the Z71V
post #5 of 103
it looks like the highest temp on this is on the touchpad. Adam, how hot is is subjectively?

omg that battery is fuguly. and y did they only go for the 128mb version of the videocard?
what do you guys think about that battery/tilt? the review was not very opinionated, i'd liked to have heard the reviewer's thoughts.
interesting idea moving all ports to the sides, with a blank backside. not sure how i feel about that.
i'm a sucker for glossy screen, so i'd go for the xga size.

this lappy doesnt look very well-suited for lap top use. look at all those 'pointies' and 'batteries' sticking out.

Yeah, I agree that the battery looks bad, I hope that they will come out with something like a 9 or 6 cell.

On the graphics card part, 256 megs wouldn't really make too much a differance in a 6600 go b/c I don't think the card is powerful enough. I think it starts getting powerful enough as it hits around the 6800 level.

Wow , this thing is louder than the 8790 I have. I thought going for a Centrino , Sonoma would give me a Quieter Lappie. That Sure Is Odd. Definitely going to turn more heads when Fan goes on. But then again , Don't care. I wonder do they smaller batteries for the 3790 work with this one or am I just talking non-sense. Now 3 hours of DVD Playback, Would you say gives smth. near the 6, 7 hours of Word, Internet Explorer Use ?

Thanks very much for the Review Adam

Best Regards

The battery may be ugly but the elevated position may allow the fans for better circulation? Just an observation.

That's why a lot of people like it on the 3790.

I do agree with that. However being swappable and all , I Still think there should be an option for a smaller battery.

So whats the trade off? Aestheic plesantries for higher heat which may cause damage to the computer and lower performance? Or for a lighter system and a more viable protable machine? I personally would carry 2 batteries anyways to ensure my system be ready at all times. Carrying a little extra weight usally pays off.

Oh it's not only about aesthetics. Ergonomics too.

So far it does not look like there will be a 12 cell option.

The touchpad only felt warm, not hot at all.

I was suprised with how loud it picked up on the DB reader, it doesn't sound loud at all... I think it has to do with the pitch of the fans(Not bad at all IMHO). I am not sure i have the patience to test it in word or internet for 6 hours ... but i'll have to try tommorow.

Originally as many remember there was an option for a 6 cell battery, all i have heard in a while is "Short supply and back order" on trying to get more in.

Long Live PCtorque Staff

I have an exam this morning, so technically there is reason for me to be up.

But Luke still answering posts at 4A.M.

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining , just feel we might be depriving you of some sleep.

But then again it does explain why Adam compares Noise Levels with "Luke Begging to Work Late"

So Long Sagerites. T-3 Before last final.

Best Regards.

I could live with the battery, so long as those little feet could be unscrewed for using it on your lap. The largest disappointment in my mind is the port placements - all at the sides and front! I know Clevo's all about performance, but come on... a little aesthetics design wouldn't go a miss...

I was really hoping this would be my next laptop, but I don't think I could deal with those port placements.

I know you guys say its quiet when the laptop is idling. But I think I will have to test that our in person before I buy another laptop online.

Other then that, it sounds good. Seriously considering it as a backup/ portable /quieter laptop to my 9860 =p
