New MSI notebooks (Sonoma and Turion64 platforms) - Page 3

Hey, winkx01, nice find!

Last time I checked they weren't shown on the official MSI page yet. What I did find is some info about the release on their french page (where it looks more like the 645), and the barebone version (1029) that's listed at xmeld and a bunch of shops all around Germany. This one looks like the 620 and I guess that's the "ugly" one.

There's some more funny stuff on the msi.com.tw page - I didn't know there's a 256MB X700 option coming, plus look at the CPU choices - up to Turion MT44 - the highest that's officialy out is the MT-37 and the recent ML-40.

Too bad about the WXGA resolution, but I'll probably get this laptop anyway.

.
you know how they quote out to what they believe the motherboard will handle - just an estimate based on AMDs roadmap of product releases.

not sure the 256mb x700 would do much more than the 128mb anyway.

they are also on the US msi site. They are listed as whitebooks and say "coming soon". they have the grey version of the 1029 on the US site, so hopefully that's not what version is being shipped to the states. hopefully both machines look like the pics from the taiwan site, because those are much more stylish.

anyways, here are the US links, if anyone is interested: 1029 and 1032

BF2 needs 128MB VRAM recomended for the game is 256MB VRAM. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/ba.../techinfo.html

But where can you get the 256MB version of MSI ms-1029??? I would buy it/pre-order in a flash!

both notebooks seem to have a black/grey color scheme, but the 1032 (645) uses almost a dark grey instead of straight black. essentially, they are almost identical in design also. Personally I like the design of both, but like the looks of the 1029 (635) just a little more (except the mousepad, because of it's wierd angles).

I am currently looking into both machines, but don't know which one I like more. I was almost set on getting the 645 (once it is available for purchase). Now I noticed that the specs on the 6600 go are either the 64/128 version, compared to the 128/256 versions of the x700 that are in the 635, so I might have to look into that more. The 645 will probably have better battery life than the 635, but the 635 will be more powerful, so it's a tough decision.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that there are more pictures on the taiwan MSI site, if you click the link on each of the laptops...
If you configure it with a MT(25w) Turion 64 you should have pretty good batterylife anyway and you get more performance and is ready for 64 bit. When I compare the two, to me it's like the 645 is missing functions due to no 64 bit. Alittle less battery life on the other hand, is not like a missing feature! But that's just my way of seeing it. It would be awesome if the 256MB version came to the US. I know with 256MB your 3DMark05 score increases some over 128MB This alone would make it worth while.

Anyone heard anything more about the S270 (MSI 1013)? It's the 12.1" with the Turion. I figure I'll probably get that or the 700m, but I'd like to hear some more about the S270 before I make a final decision...
What is the 700m?

Your current post count? j/k

When I hear 700m, I think Dell.. are there other lappys with that same model labeling?
yeah, he's talking about the dell 700m as the sizes of the s270 and the 700m are very similar. that ultraportable type notebook
post #50 of 63
So has anyone bought the S270 yet? It looks like it's available at xmeld.com. I wonder when the 1029 will be there? My guess is next week... I think we will not see the 256MB version on the US market though, or it will be much longer till it comes here.

These notebooks look like they could be pretty sweet. Wish the screen was WSGA but aside from that I wonder how the build quality of msi notebooks generally is?
i know there were a couple 510c users on this board, and i have had both the 510 and currently the s250.

don't worry about build quality, it's very good. what is still unproven is the manufacturer support in the US. how long will an RMA take? how responsive is MSI to an RMA request in the first place?

from the one guy i know that did send a system back due to some power-up problems, it was around 2 weeks round trip, which isn't bad for manufacturer RMA.

they do have the RMA request online, though, which is good.

Those who bought it in Germany are very happy. I could give you a link to a thread in German on notebook-foren.de if it is of use. The minor problems cited are related to a
cheap keyboard and loud fan. However, nobody really complained about it and the fan
can be silensed with rmclock or centrino harware control (see undervolting thread on this forum). Good luck with your purchase.

I'm waiting for this one aswell. Got no idea what's holding MSI from making it available right now. It's the only X700 + Turion 64 MT(25w) + DDR400MHz notebook and it also customizable at xmeld.com. I got a feeling the demand might be higher than what xmeld.com can cope with. They are basicly the only place I have seen selling it customizable. The barbone alone I have seen at 2 other places so far though. Might have to pre-order to not have to wait for second shippments...

What other 2 places have you seen selling the bare bones because that is what I want?

Well MSI made the Centrino Version available yesterday which makes me think they are haveing some issues manufactureing them. MSI usually makes sure that it will be available when it is released.

My Bet it will become available Next Monday.

I think the MSI ms-1029 is the most perfect portable notebook out there right now.

Turion 64 MT(25w version) (First among notebooks?)
DDR 400MHz (First among Turion 64 notebooks?)
ATI X700 128MB (Standard for gaming and portabillity in one)
WXGA (Good native res. for gaming)
~6.5lbs
Low Price

I have decided to get the ms-1029 over the Ferrari 4000 I was thinking about first due to the Turion 64 MT(25w) instead of ML(35), DDR 400MHz (as stated in the MSI ms-1029 manual) instead of DDR333MHz and Price. If it's not available this week though I don't know, maybe I'll just get a desk top then! Waiting is no fun
