Possibility of swapping an ultra low voltage 1.0ghz P-M w/ normal P-M?

I have a JVC 7310 ultra portable laptop which I am using as my primary machine these days. It has an Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) Pentium-M 1.0ghz processor in it. The CPU is in a socket and my question was does anyone think it is realistic to swap it with a Pentium-M 1.6ghz cpu I have laying around? Are they electrically compatible? I know heat dissapation would be a problem but I'd like to see how realistic this is first.

i've asked this question some time back before. i have a asus s5n ulv 1.0ghz as well and wanted to upgrade. but i believe that someone mentioned that these ulv cpu may be soldered on and it would be pretty tedious to get them off. even if you could get them off, the mb may be wired in such a way that it would only be compatible (volting/power) with the lower powered cpu's.

again, i could be wrong, if someone has some ideas on this, i wouldn't mind upping my cpu as well.

I am going to go through the intel site to see what the deal is with the power requirements. My JVC 7310 is actually an Asus s2n and I think the BIOS that it comes with is pretty standard. I just down want to blow out my cpu or motherboard on a $2.5k laptop.

Okay... here is the PDF with voltages in it.

http://download.intel.com/design/mob...s/25261203.pdf

Go to page 25. I wonder if asus will be willing to give voltage specs on their motherboard design.

The pins maybe different. On the newer PM, the LV and ULV are 379 pins and maybe ball grid interface.

you got me, i wouldn't know where to begin even looking at that intel page. keep me dated if you find more info.

then u have to worry about bios issues as well.

hrana: which processor do you have? banias? dothan? i assume that you would want to upgrade at a higher speed but with the same cpu chip family right?

here is a program that will give you info on your cpu, may be it can be helpful to you:
