Asus w3v / Asuz z71 for College bound student?

Which would be recommended for college bound student?

i am worried about the sparkly factor for the z71 and the weight, if it werent for the screen, it'd be one awesome notebook

but worried about the heat for the w3v; how the palm area heats up and the vents blowing hot air. x600 seems decent enough for some games

There are a couple W3v reviews on the Asus discussion section of the Notebook Review forums, and there are several Z71v reviews here. you're bound to get a "slanted" answer wherever you go, but the basic tradeoff is:
Z71v has more graphics power, it's cooler, and has a longer battery life
W3v is smaller, lighter, has a better screen, and looks better

if you want to you can wait for the W1 refresh, sorry i forgot the link to the post, but i beleve its in gerneral some where or on www.notebookreview.com forum you can check the asus forums.

i think the w1s are too big.. looking for something mobile

The W1 and the Z71V are both 15.4" widescreens so I can't see why the W1 would be too large when you've considering the Z71V?

i believe the w1s have a bigger dimension, and well.. i don't like the aluminum chasis =/

If you're considering the W3V, check out my review I just posted.

They are smaller in every dimension except .3" wider. The newer ones will likely outperform the Z71V with the OC'ability of the x700. With pretty much the same features but an aluminum exterior... W1 all the way. The W2 is too big (not heavy) for my tastes, otherwise that'd be on the list as well.

What graphics chipset does the W1 have?

9600 pro atm, but the refresh will supposedly have an x700.

You a gamer? Get the z71v.

You want something smaller and more fashionable? The W3V or the V6V.

i KIND of game.. haha and i am looking for portability as well. and i won't be having a desktop.. i just cant seem to pass up the specs of z71, while i can't seem to pass up the portability and the screen. ( even though i dislike the 60gb harddrive, and the fact that i can't upgrade ram to 1gig without voiding the warranty for w3v)

The Z71V is a champ. If that's what you want then get it, that's if your willing to sacrifice the portability and the "OMFG YOUR LAPTOP LOOKS SO GOOD!!!" effect of the W3V or the V6V. I still get that from my S5N and it's getting old.

If you kind of game, and you dont want to play games like Doom 3 and Half life 2 at max settings I say get the W3v and the V6V.
