I'm just wondering for those who got teh z71v, if they feel that its too big for college use. Like, i'm goign to want to take it to all my classes and such, and i don't know if i'm going to want to lug it around all day. Do any of you feel that its too big/heavy or just right or whatnot?

Well it is ~6.5 lbs. That is less than my Calculus book which I take to class every MWF, but not any more since finals are next week!

Well back to the topic, I hual around my Calculus and Chemistry Book on the same day, Why dont you try that experiment. Put ~6 pounds of stuff in a back pack and pretend your going to classes.

I take my Z71V and ac adaptor into uni most days. Its an hour journey by tube, twenty mins by train, ten mins by bus and I don't feel weighed down at all. It can be a hassle if I'm carrying my books and laptop together but the carry case supplied with the laptop is great, and can handle more than just the laptop in it. And with the dimensions of the laptop being small it slips easy inside my backpack for any long treks I take.

Ok, weight doesn't seem like an issue. What about size? If you take notes or soemthing in class using the computer, will it be a problem?

it hasn't been a problem for me. 14-15.4" computers are pretty much the standard. There are some people who have 12" ultraportables, but you don't need them. So far, nobody's complained that I'm taking up too much space!

Nope, not too big. 15.4" laptops have the perfect sized screens (no eye strain) and for a laptop in that class its actually pretty small and light. The old laptop I was lugging to class (also a 15.4") was heavier. Now the Dell 9300 is probably too big.

if we were talking about a 17" notebook, im sure the story would be different, but we're not. The 15" widescreen is small enough to carry around but large enough to be able to not have to squint when you look at it. I've had no problems carrying it around, and actually enjoy to

I'm sure you'd enjoy carrying it around if you can switch between notepad/VC++/HL2

Who would ever use VC++?

<< This guy does. For just learning C++ it's relatively useful... if any of you other people use anything else say so and I'll get it if it is easier for me

Dev-C++! Free, very nice interface, relatively good optimizing, and support for everything.

Yep, as Nietsnie said, get Dev-C++. VC++ is the absolute WORST compiler for learning purposes... It's implementation of the STL is terrible, leading to well-written, correct code not compiling. VC++ 6 is the worst of the lot in terms of this; VC++ 7 has improved a bit, but given that Dev-C++ is free, it's really not worth the time to buy.
