Which do you think is Dell's best screen?

I've got to decide which notebook to buy but I've been put off by the 9300 screen problems. My problem is that I'll be buying it on Small Business in Italy and unlike private sales once I've got it I can't return it. Unlike alot of you!!
I need at least a 15" sceen with high resolution and do not want to have "sparkles" and light leakage. So which do you think is the best screen?

The WXUGA set at full is too tiny to read it at full resolution!

no light leakage........ hmm i think all lcd screen's have light leakage. it just depends on the severity.

I have an XPS2 and a 9300 (going back tomorrow) both with the Truelife screens and both LG's. They look awesome. Mind you they don't quite match the quality of Sony XBrite screens, but they look a hell of alot better than what people are saying. Given the choice between a matte screen or a TL my money is going with the TL.

In all honesty I think the "sparkle effect" is way overblown. Some may have some really bad screens, but I think the majority are being hyper-critical. To my eyes the LG's "sparkle effect" looks no different than what Dell notebook screens (in particular the matte Ultrasharp) have looked like for years. This pseudo-issue has been going on for years. I remember people complaining about the "screen door or glitter effect" on i8200 UXGA Ultrasharp displays. When I bought my i8200 (and the XPS2) I was worried about the screen quality since it seemed everyone was just disgusted with the screen quality. Lo and behold my fear was unfounded.

getting a little off-topic here but... i've been using strictly LCDS for the past 6 months. the other day i was on my cousins CRT, and man, it just seemed really blurry.... maybe that's due to another reason?

The only time I see the screen sparkle is when it's wet with my spit!

I have and i8200 (XPS2 soon, I hope) and I think the screen is fine, its alot better that some other laptop screens that Ive seen.

I was worried about all of this talk about 'sparkles' (I never even knew what they were until I came to this forum) but I really didnt see anything when I was looking on my LCD, now and again though I see a bit of a shimmer but its nothing that really bothers me.

and chazzy whats with the spit.............

700m has the best screen - except at an angle.
^^ that's because its a WXGA with bad angles. You should look at the screen on the 9300 TL WUXGA, looks marvelous!

If you set the % to 115% it does great! When I had my 6000D @ 125% the big (like the NOTEBOOKSFORUMS.COM) at the top of this screen was blurry and @100% it was sad too.

My screen's pretty good. Very very very low light leakage on the bottem but its not noticable when I adjust my screen angle.

My I8600 looks awesome :-) Just my 2 cents if you go outlet or something since it isn't up on the site anymore...

I hear ya duff... My latitude c840 with the 64mb geforce 440 go was the shiznit at the time with its never before heard of p4-m, WITH a 15" UXGA screen! Man it was awesome. That screen, as i look at it.... had the "sparklies". I got the orig screen replaced with an IBM screen 2 years later. It looked just like my thinkpad and my uncle's big bad thinkpad. Oh yeah, there's STILL the same amount of "sparkles". It looks awesome. That screen is still one of my favorites (other than the blurring on games at times!) and i have a 21" trinitron at home along with a sony 15" LCD and a Dell Ultrasharp 1703. That c840 still was nicer than all, well, maybe not the Trinitron!

Point of this is: My xps2 LG TrueLife might beat all of them hands down. Even with the "sparklies"

Same with my I8600 - awesome screen but mine is the 1920 x 1200 WUXGA. No sparkes, no grain.

Do you mean that the viewing angles aren't very good?
Yah, the vertical is especially bad, the sides aren't TOO bad...

I know you're considering one though Tech_Girl, so don't take it the wrong way. This is the best screen I have ever seen, and I've seen ALOT of screens.

Alright thanks

Just wanting to check in to everything about this laptop. Anyone else have an opinion on the 700m's screen/viewing angles?
