5660 HT / video chipset - Page 8

Yes, but I dont want to have to install the other program/files that are needed for it to work as they will just become redundent and I already have too many useless files on there which are impposible to sort out by hand.

All programs that does something like this, uses a device driver, and I didnt care to bundle them together, would it felt better if I did? You know about control panel, add/remove programs, right?

What were your results?

For those of you who are worried about the heat involved when enabling HT, I have been monitoring the temp all day now. I have done what I usually do, lots of coding, reading and surfing. The temp have stayed between 50-55 all time.

Thanks and much thanks for your DOS & Windows program, I'm in debt with you.

I can not find the download link for your modified BIOS. Can you publish it? I have a BIOS from Clevo 56DS303_64.zip but I prefer to use your BIOS because that BIOS has not been tested by anyone although it is for 64 MBytes ATI Radeon.

Could you add to your program the option to start-stop the fans at the high and medium speed in DOS and Windows?

As you know reverse engineering; could you modify the BIOS or the KB firmware for the fans are blowing before (with less degrees)?

I think that would have to do the laptop cooler and more stable, reliable and usable.

I recommend you to read all posts in this thread from the beginning. The reasons are:
1. The bios is already "published" two times in this thread
2. You find out why you should NOT flash the bios in 56DS303_64.zip. This is also why I had to made the hybrid bios.

Maybe I will add that feature in the future. I dont have any heat problems and have a lot of other things to do first.

Its more likely it will be a software solution like your former question suggested.

Wriggly, what are your computer-specs and what temps did you measure?

Finally, good luck and happy flashing!

Ramses, something is wrong here. What are your bios version and keyboard bios version? You can see the versions while booting, press the pause key if you have to.
Its the keyboard bios i.e. the bios for the Embedded Controller that controls the fans.

It would be REALLY nice if some of you who uses the temperature monitor program (if any?) posts your computer specs and idle temperature, and maybe some testing like cpu burn for 5 minutes if you dare to. This would give us all some reference values!

Henrik: Try this program in test mode for 20 mins and keep and eye on your temps
http://atomnet.co.uk/?p=programs&search=prime

Or even better, run this -

http://atomnet.co.uk/?p=programs&search=fold

And run 2 copies of it (one on each virtual processor) as this also uses the SSE2 instructions which creates a little more heat.

The point is, I have already posted my temps here (idleing at 50-51, max temp 83 when running cpu burn for 20 minutes) but I dont have any other values to compare them to.

Ramses: What did you do to read the temps in Linux? I was playing about with /proc/ but couldn't find anything in there. Are you looking in /dev/ instead?

did the setup went ok? It worked for me. Try to locate the dll manually and either copy it to windows\system32 or add the path to the system path (Control panel / system / advanced / enviroment variables / path).

How did it go, NS?
Can you post a direct like for the thing you need to download to get your program working because the thing I installed from their site installed but there are no DLL files in its own folder so I have a feeling its not the right one.

It's not the easiest page to find the right thing on espcially as I am not sure exactly what I am supposed to be downloading......

IF you're running an ACPI-enabled kernel in linux, you can find all your information under /proc/acpi.
For example, if I do this:

cat /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THM0/temperature

...I get:

temperature: 45 C

There are similar files under battery, processor, etc. While I could write little scripts to monitor this information, I just use the ACPI'd gkrell monitor. What, you don't use gkrell?! It's great!
Thats where I thought it would be, but there is nothing under /thermal_zone/ . I have ACPI support and all the options (Thermal Zone, Temp, Fan, Button, etc) compiled into the kernel (compiled in, not just moldules) but alas, nothing in there.......

Just for fun, try this as root:

insmod /lib/modules/2.4.21-20.1.2024.2.1.nptl/kernel/drivers/acpi/thermal.o

...then look in /proc.

NOTE that your modules may be in a different kernel directory (do a locate of thermal.o)

NS, how did it work out for you with the temperature reading in windows?
