Playing fps gives me a head ache...how about you?

Does anyone in here get a head ache when you play fps games like Far Cry & Half-Life?

I recently got the XPS2 and finally get to play these kind of games (because my old computer only has 8 MB of video power) but running around shooting things in the 1st person perspective is giving me a head ache about 15 minutes into the game.

I guess I am not a true gamer.

not me. i can play COD or CSS for hours on end. provided im in the mood to do so.

may i suggest getting an external keyboard.. might be getting a headach from being too close to the screen. so getting the external keyboard will give you the chance to sit back and see the LCD as a whole.. This way u dont have to make ur eyes go crazy...

How is your eyesight? I noticed that people who have weaker eyesight tend to get dizzy from FPS games.

That is sick...If i got headaches from cs:s I would problably die from the thought of no being able to crack out on it for hours...I used to get headaches from playing but I needed glasses...after getting glasses it was all good then the only headache was not being able to get enough FPS

I get headaches in the back of my head after playing FPS games for too long (over 30 minutes). I also get horrible stomach pains. It is supposedly motion sickness. I have 20/20 vision and have never had vision problems. Plus I don't get motion sickness on carnival rides or driving fast. So not really sure why I have the problem with FPS games.

Back in the days of Doom 1/2, we used to play for 4+ hours straight and I never had problems. But now, just 30 minutes of Doom 3 makes me end up on the couch in the fetal position wanting to barf my brains out.

I've been having good luck with UT2004 though, I can usually go about an hour before I start feeling any pain.

I've been considering trying out motion sickness pills shortly before playing to see if that helps, but still haven't gotten around to it.

Halo, Half Life 2, fine. Unreal Tournament fine.

Doom 3 gives me stomach aches and diarrhea.

I used to play a real lot of HL. Sometimes for 10 or more hours straight. Only problem I get is very dry eyes from trying not to blink. And maybe increased heart rate and blood pressure due to the pressures of battle.

ah I can play UT2004 with teh music in the back groud all night long if I wanted. But if I waer my contacts then my eyes get all dried up, so I gotta take em off and wear my glasses

Same Here, but I found a solution years ago. Play RTS (Real Time Strategy) games instead. Since then I am a huge Blizzard fan, which puts out games like Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft and World of Warcraft...

Currently I am addicted to Warcraft III. Age of Empires 2 is out or comes out soon and that looks sweet. Of course there are more out there.

Age of Mythology is cool. You may want to try puzzle games like the Myst series or Syberia I & II.

I've heard the Age of Mythology rocks, never played though. Myst I've heard is very complicated. Never heard of Syberia.

AoM is awesome and it looks fantastic on my XPS 2. Myst is full of incredible puzzles. They are mind benders but not impossible. It's a different kind of game play, but I enjoy a good visual environment with interesting puzzles to solve. Syberia is similar to Myst with stunning environments and complex puzzles to solve.

Of course, you may what to try something like Lord of the Rings Return of the King. It's more like a third person shooter and it has lots of action and adventure. Or you could try Total War, or Dawn of War, or Civilization, or Fallout, or Baldurs Gate, or Warcraft, or Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey, or WoW, or....... Whoa. I'm making myself dizzy.

Wow, how do you handle rollercoasters? I can't ride them at all, but never have I ever gotten sick from playing FPS games.

I find half life 2 a BIG dissa..

Its also giving me sore eyes and nausea

Has anyone played with the motion settings, does this help? I have tried lower resolutions but that doesnt help. I get very high frame rates, o thats not the problem

Far Cry I can play for hours with no ill effects.

From that I conclude its motion sickness, the interface is less slick. Far cry is far smoother

What do you think?

I'm back to stategy games after this too!!

Champagne helps with motion sickness. I think it has something to do with the bubbles. I say, if you have motion sickness "get drunk and frag."

Of course, you could always use dramimine <sp>.
