One question for those who are suffering when playing HL or CS. You, of course, are running the game in LCD's native resolusion ?

I find it easier playing it at 1440 x 900 on my WUXGA. Makes the picture kind of softer. 1920 x 1200 is too sharp and eye straining.

I havent played any FPS in while just WoW. Anyway not sure if this will help any since LCDS don't have much range if any with the refresh rate but I think I read someplace a while back that setting it higher can help with eye strain. My system allows for a wopping 59 or 60hz its set to 60. I was getting headaches from every day work (PC/network tech) but my eyes are not that bad. I was given a very low prescription glasses and they have the anti-glare film...not that LCDS can really glare. I only wear them when working on computers and my headaches pretty much went away. When gaming I would get tunnel vision sometimes and bad eye strain. I think its important to look away every so often and take breaks...not something most of want to do when immersed but it helps. Also as mentioned your nose doesn't have to be touching the display. I often nag at my wife as I see her directly from the side when we are having "puter time". She sits kinda slumped forward which is bad for the back and way to close to the display. Pressure on your neck and back can probably lead to some of the things we experience especially the dizziness or feeling of imbalance. I try and situate my displays a decent distance from me so i can still see a good ammount of other things around it. If you can see each individual pixel your to close, and when everything else in the room starts to blur it might be time for a break. Its hard as usually when everything else fades away you are really immersed into the game...just take care so that you can continue to enjoy those games.

stop the weapon bobbing, Increase the Field of view. this may help to take care of the motion sickness/headache.

I recently got the XPS2 and finally get to play these kind of games (because my old computer only has 8 MB of video power) but running around shooting things in the 1st person perspective is giving me a head ache about 15 minutes into the game.

I guess I am not a true gamer.

Same here myself, but for me I was fine and dandy until about 2 years ago. I'm not really sure what happened. It was instantaneous. One day I'm running around fragging everything in sight in Unreal Tourney, the next day I can't make it past 20 minutes without wishing for death.

And its not just a headache, it starts out as a headache, but if I keep playing for more than 10 minutes after the intial headachy feelings come on (I tried countless times to get past it), I get a full blown migraine where I have to literally lie down, close my eyes and try to sleep just to escape the blinding pain.

I guess its G-d's way of telling me, stop wasting your life infront of the dang computer.

It's called photosensitivity. It's common thing, for me I feel real motion sick. I also play RTS since I feel like puking after 30min of FPS gaming.... I know it's sad.

Fortunately, I've never had a problem with motion sickness or headaches from game play nor do I get "ice cream headaches". I can even go into a spin in a flight sim and watch all the way to the ground and just come away with the feeling that it was cool. (not bad for someone on the highside of 50) Unfortunately, I am plagued by fequent terrible migraines - go figure. I have heared that changing the FOV in HalfLife 2 and some of the other FPS solves some of the headache/visual problems for a great many people. You might want to give that a try.

I don't get motion sickness after, say.... the 10th beer or so.

Otherwise I stay with Roleplaying, Puzzle, RTS, or third person shooters.

4 what its worth, belive it or not, but I'm a pilot. So I really don't think it has anything to do with motion sickness or perceived motion sickness.
