I have a NEtgear 802.11.g wireless that is rated for up to 54 Mps and i'm supposed to have 3 MB download speed. When i run pcpitstops bandwidth test w/wire im getting around 2.4 MB (2400 kbps) speed, but on my desktop and girlfriends laptop we only get like 100-500 kbps which BLOWS, i need a new wireless router right? or what's the deal? ANyone recommend a good decent priced router? I'm going to be doing a little bit of online gaming, but not much so i don't need the fastest possible just decent.

i have the same problem with my belkin 801.11b router, except i get around 5000kbps on wired, and around 2000kbps on wireless...no clue how to fix it, except maybe recommened that if you are doing something that uses that extra speed, move the laptop closer (physically) to the router

WHen testing the bandwidth i plugged only my pc into modem then tried using wireless with nothing else hooked to router, although my neighbor across the street also has 802.11.g too actually same router so maybe when i only hooked up my pc by wireless he's using some of my bandwidth, but then again if he were online he'd be using his own router. Anyway i'm thinking about getting netgear w??624 router which has up to 108 mbps instead of 54, newegg has it for $49

I have the old 624 router and love it. GREAT preformance. (be sure to update the frimware).

Only con is the setup, its a little confusing but once you figure it out and tweak the settings the only thing that boggs down the preformance is the range.

Netgear has a newer model of this router that claims to have 3x the range etc, due to having 7 internal antenas... try checking that out, if I were looking to buy on now thats the one I would probbaly get.

EDIT: Earlier today I was noticing the preformance of my network slowing. Try limiting MAC addresses and restarting the router. Often restarting the router increases preformance for me (not sure why).

I'm very happy with my Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I've seen it on sale for $40 canadian ($35 US?)
