The 4080 & 4780 discussion thread - Page 5

1. In the 4760 there is room for only ONE battery in that case. If you get over 1.5 hrs on that battery then you are doing great.

2. TV tuner on the 4760 is either NTSC or PAL. I tried to get a universal tuner, but it was a NO GO. The PAL format is pretty flexible. The differences beteween the various PAL formats is not noticeable. Freaky part is the PAL to SECAM conversion that you get from Europe(PAL) to Middle East(SECAM). Those are noticeable using PAL equipment in the Middle East.

3. The only way to swap a battery on the 4760 is to open the bottom area of the case that holds the battery. I dont think that would be a good idea.

No Bluetooth?

Anyone else notice the loss of the Bluetooth option on the 4080 and 4780 compared to the older models?

Is bluetooth going to make it, or is it gone for good?

i noticed that.. one of the main reasons i'm waiting for the release of the 8790 now... and of course the fact that i don't have the $$ for my comp right now so i might as well wait!

Bluetooth?

I noticed that the bluetooth was no longer in the customization menu... what is up with that? Did putting the card reader and tuner in mean the bluetooth didn't fit any more? ...just when people where getting logitech bluetooth KB/mouse to work with the internal bluetooth.

ship time

is the 4080-c a quick shipping thing or is there a wait time?

I too am very interested in seeing a report on the new 4780 and 4080. I am considering replacing my desktop with one of these, probably the 4780. It would be nice if they put the glossy LCD on the 4780 too, but maybe that would be too pricey?

Has Clevo/Sager Regressed?

I was all ready for the 4080 and then I found out it didn't offer bluetooth or 802.11g internally anymore. These features were KEY to me in a laptop. Especially bluetooth since I have a great deal of accessories I tie in to my current laptop using bluetooth. I mean I could just pop in a PCMCIA card but that just isn't slick and...come on...Sagers are supposed to not need PCMCIA cards. They are supposed to rock right out of the box. Was is the 6-in-1 reader that kept it out because I find those things totally useless, personally (I can just plug my camera into USB)? So, Clevo, give us back our bluetooth and g wireless. 802.11b is the past and bluetooth is here to stay.

Wireless IS important!

Oh, that is concerning. I was looking forward to the internal 802.11g for work/school/home. That is the emerging standard too. I might be able to forgive them for leaving it off the 17" model since portability is more limited, but not off the 15" model... and actually, I agree too that Sagers should include the whole ball-of-wax when it comes to internal devices; that has been a strong point for them.
Doesn't the internal wireless use the internal "PCI slot" that these notebooks usually have? Would the card reader take that up? I would have thought the card reader would take a bay, but not the internal PCI... ?
aargh, admitidly, I will just slap a PC Card in for the wireless, but it would have been so much more "elegant" to not have to...

I was hoping for 54g and bluetooth on the 4780 also. I was told this particular motherboard did not support them. It's a different motherboard then the 4760.

I ordered my 4080c yesterday. I was told that estimated ship out would be within two weeks

I also just ordered the 4080 from PCTorque ...I chose the 4080 over the 4780 bec of the Glossy screen +high contrast...saw a glossy screen on a toshiba and it was great!!! I like the TV tuner of the 4780 ....but just decided to get the USB 2.0 tuner separate...as the USB 2.0 tv tuner has greater resolution then the built in tuner of the 4780...plus i could use the tuner on other pcs..and use it when I upgrade later on. Im planning to get the kworld x-pert ...not sure if needs to be plugged in though..if it does i may get the Aver. I will be adding a wireless B/G card in manually later on..as I think I could get a cheaper wireless B/G then the one provided by pctrorque (60$). I got the 7200 rpm HD option. I got the 2.8 ghz rather that 2.6 as the 2.8 has other advantages over the 2.6 other than Mhz. The subwoofer +extra speakers in the 4780 is nice too...but thinking of attaching the laptop to external speakers or headphones anyway. The 17" is nice but the 15" has around the same number of pixels...so you would have the same amount of screen real estate anyways. Saw the 17" mac in frys..which is supposed to have the same screen...and was not that bright and the contrast is low. I think the 15" screen uses less power that the 17"...i emailed pctorque for the specs of the 15" screen but they did not have it...i wanted to compare the response time.

So I went for the smaller/lighter 4080. Cons of the 4080: does not look as nice as the 4780...thicker than the 4780.

Can I have my 4080-c now? *cries*

4080 USB specs?

I'm new to this forum. I'm thinking about buying a 4080. I'm seeing different specs for the number of USB ports. Sager says 2, PC Torque says 3, Power Notebooks says 2, but their picture gallery shows a model with 3 ports.... Someone please clear all the confusion!
it has 2 usb ports
no it has 3, 2 in the back and 1 on the left side. just like my 4060

oh wait nevermind, it does only have 2. Look at sagers website. Its got a 6 in 1 card reader instead of the usb port on the side, odd. I would have much rather had the usb port. I use up all of my 3 usb port and have to switch them all the time.

Really? What are the other advantages?
he's probably talking about what comes with that model and not the P4 itself.
he's referring to the bus speed jump, 533 to 800 IIRC, that hapens between the 2.6 and the 2.8
