As I am looking to invest in a worthy notebook, price is not really a factor.

Fan noise is my only real concern.

The Asus Z71V is supposed to be pretty damn quiet and should be able to play Doom 3 pretty good too. However, the sparkly screen issue seems to be the biggest concern with that laptop at the moment.

My m70 is really freakin' quiet, and although I don't have doom3, I know my quadro 1400 256meg video card could play it very well.

You could try these:

HP Compaq nw8240 (ATI FireGL V5000 128 MB)
Dell Precision M70 (nVidia Quadro1400 256 MB)

Both are fine business workstation computers. Should go to a very demanding taste, when price is not a problem. I estimated the performance of ATI FireGL V5000 128 MB here:
