Storm at weekend - LAPTOP DEAD!?!

Please help.

There was a nasty storm at the weekend and my laptop went off in a big flash! There was a bright light and then the screen just died.

I have tried switching it on since then to no avail - the power light flashes every second (whereas it should be constant) and there is no output. I have tried running from both battery and adapter but I fear the worst has happened...a power surge has buggered my laptop.

As it's no longer under warranty, is there anything I can do to fix it? What should I check first and is there any hope it's just the battery/power pack?

Somebody give me hope, please....

Any advice would be welcome, thanks

i believe it is fried
sorry

Is there a pattern to the flashing? I seem to remember there being something on here about deciphering the flashes, but I don't know where.

I suspect it's fried, the only thing I can think of to try would be to try and get another battery/power supply and try that.

Sorry man, hope it's easily fixed.

the laptop isnt fried because it has the battery, so dont worry about. But, the ac adaptor is definitely gone. so call dell up and buy an adaptor.

Unfortunately it sounds to me like it's toast. Does it appear to startup (ie, do the indicator lights/drives do anything) or do anything when you attempt to power it up?

What kind of laptop is it btw?

I would love to hear how you came to this conclusion based on the provided info?

I must agree, the info given rather indicates that its six feet under, but also that is not for sure. One has to take a look inside (visible inspection). Do some measurements; only then can one say whats up...

because the storm hit my house last year and i thought my laptop was fried too but it turned out to be the ac was dead. dell's ac adaptor has a chip built it to it therefore it will fried the adaptor first before the laptop, unless you have the battery removed, otherwise the laptop SHOULD be fine. i'm saying this because i have the i9100, it's a very well made system, so YMMV.
anyway, i know most people removed their batteries because it's a desktop replacement comp, and if you are one of those idiots, youre fked.

It's weird, it seem to want to power up but won't.

CD light flashes and power light blinks every second or so. Other than that though, nothing much happens.

It's a SAMSUNG v25 but I posted in the DELL section because you guys really seem to a). care and b). know your stuff.

I will buy a new power pack as suggested and try again (with and without the battery in). If that works, I'll be over-the-moon

God I hope this works....

It sounds dead to me. If it won't start with a fresh battery - I don't see why a new power pack would change things. As a note - when my XPS GEN 2 died it's caps lock key would flash 10 times when attempting to start - with nothing on the screen. DELL is sending me a replacement.

I have no fresh battery or power lead (yet). This is something I hope to try shortly.

Will any power pack be OK? I have a XPS2 laptop so could I try that power pack on the SAMSUNG V25?

TIA

Though it doesnt sound good, you really cant tell the extent of the damage until you get it to qualified tech repair.....

It could be very simple or it could be totally cooked

While waiting, try to open up your laptop and remove and install everything that

you can find like connectors, memory, hard drive, etc. This takes time but hey, you

never know. And this process is completely free so might as well try.
