Hey, What do you guys prefer?
Personally doesnt matter. I will take a notebook with either, provided it has the specs I want.

I'm pretty much w/B Nietsnie on this one... I've seen some gorgeous screens of both types, although in a glare-free environment I think the glossy ones tend to have better color and saturation and all.

if they had the same specs.. same resolution.. same contrast, same saturation and colour.. i'll take the non glossy
but i heard the glossy 1s have sharper image, better colours...
better colours(+) and sharper image(+) but reflective(-)
is better than
not as sharp(-), and worst colours(-) but not reflective(+)..

Well, I'm getting a HP ZV6000 and it has the option to upgrade to the BrightView screen(glossy), but I live in Florida and I'm always in the sun so I can't have a glare on the screen.

It appears to me that glossy screens are a consumer driven fad because you do not see glossy screens on business computers, ie. IBM, and Dell Latitudes

The glossy screens definitely look very nice. I do believe that they give deeper, richer colors and brighter images. However, the glare is ridiculous. I've tried programming on a glare type screen for a long period of time. It gave me a headache.

I agree with Akui the glare and reflection is way too much, prefer to normal or matt finish myself - if you want shiny you could always gladwrap it!

On the subject of screens, instead of starting another thread has anyone seen this?

Looks quite promising IMO 400bucks 40inch screen yes please

I get a headache using my mums laptop with a glossy screen in a well light environment ie the sun. So I would say regular.

Glossy all the way.

Glossy

Gloss is the best. Looks SO good compared to the standard matte screens.

I'd love to get one of these, but $400 to manufacture does not mean their selling price will be any less. We'll probably still be expected to pay $1,000's.

try the Dell M90, it has a screen that sits between a matte and a glossy finish.

It's one of the best.

Glossy.
i agree with codek. the m90 has a nice compromise between the glossy and the matte. i've seen some others that have something similar, but i cant think of them off the top of my head...

I have used both and feel it is a matter of personal preference. The glossy screens do look a lot better, but can also be frustrating when the lighting conditions are less than optimal. In fact, I would never purchase a desktop monitor that is glossy because of glare. I think before my next laptop purchase I will borrow my moms Dell notebook 17" glossy ultrasharp screen and see which version I like better.

Based off my current experience I would recommend a non glossy for versatility. If you are going to be using it for media and games my recommendation would be the glossy. If you are going to be doing a lot of typing, email, etc... go with a non glossy. I have never seen an M90 in person but am curious now.

Something like this is very subjective, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Try both out, if possible use them in different settings and see which one suits you best.

Best of Luck...
