used Vaio PCG-FX190 for $400?

I unexpectedly found an older used Sony Vaio PCG-FX190 for sale for $400 with an SXGA screen. It's the hi-res screen that I'm highly attracted to. I gave up researching notebooks because I don't have the $$ for a new one and the SXGA is a must for me since I'm a photographer.

It's 850mgz, 20gb HD, 256 ram, no battery. A cursory search says I'll have to pay around $125 for a battery, probably the same for a ram upgrade.

Does anyone have any experience with this machine? I'll be going to look at it tomorrow and it with an end cost of about $600 (with upgrades), it seems like a good deal but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions? I'll post this in the general forum as well.

Thanks, Midnight

Hmm, I was afraid this would be too mundane a question for anyone to bother with. C'est la vie.

with that low of a budget you should search for a cheaper brand, sony's stuff is always more expensive and you will never get a decent configuration for that price

The primary reason I'm looking at this machine is because of the SXGA screen which I need for photo work and traveling photography. Unfortunately, if the hi-res screen weren't a must I could get a brand new machine for not that much more. My dream machine, of course, would probably cost me $1600 - $2000, and I don't have the money for that now (or in the near future )

I guess I was just wondering if it was a reasonable used laptop price. I'm going to look at it in a couple of hours, I'll report back.

thanks
