Custom Building HP Laptops

Thread Starter
It may just be me, but is it rather difficult to just find a way to customize HP laptops on their website? I don't mean their "customize" option in which they give you a few base packages to choose from and then you make some rather insignificant changes. I mean, where can I build a laptop from the ground up? I've seen links to custom building the nc8230, but I can't find one for the nw8240? Thanks

If there isn't "Build Your Own" tab, they don't offer the service for the model. At least yet.

Also keep in mind the business lines do not have the pick and choose option like you maybe looking for.

Use the hpshopping.com consumer web page if you want to custom build. It is not that great of selection though as they rarely have more than 5 choices for each component. This is because the notebooks are pretty much assembled from custom components rather than industry standards. They also get deals for certain components so like the DVD burner you will not get to choose between manufactures, just a yes DVD burner, or No DVD burner.

Still you will get a range of 5 CPU speeds, a choice of DVD burner or not, about 5 memory configurations, the three standard LCD resolution screens, etc.

The majority of Hp business notebooks also have a customzie option, however when it says "customize this model" it's hardly customization.

Models that offer a "Build Your Own" tab should be your selection. Customize a Build-your-Own business model.

For consumer models, most from hpshopping.com will allow you to configure them appropriately.

I will say that Dell gives the most options for configuration options at present, followed by smaller companies. Then Hp/cpq, followed by Toshiba and Sony.

Oh and heya Larry, didn't realize you posted here too Lol.
