5/31/2005 UPDATE TV TUNER INSTALLATION

This link is from AW's site on tv tuner installtion. Since the directions are exactly the same for the one I have here's the link.

http://help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/al...i=&p_topview=1

If you have any questions upon installation please feel free to ask.

The tuners are now in and available for sale. The manufacturer is PROVIDEO and is loosely based on the PV-970. I say that because it has the same encoder but a totally different board layout. This board was never meant to hit the retail channel only ODM's so for now you cant buy it anywhere but here.

Tuners come with the following:
1. mini pci card
2. cd rom containing drivers and windvr3.

**future versions should come with the pal to coax adapter needed to hook up antenna to 7700. ANybody who bought the first batch can pick up the adapter from radio shack for $3-$5.

This is the adapter I use and it works well

The tuner is based on the Philips 7135encoder and seems to be the popular choice for encoders.

WinDVR does still have the volume control issue and must be controlled outside of the program. FLY 2000 TV can adjust inside of the program. Later versions may correct the problem with WinDVR

As I said in the other thread, I would like to purchase one from you, but I have the 5500, so I will have to wait for the person to test it out.

Sounds cool but I need to wait to think about getting one until my 7700 gets here, so the question is when are you hoping to place this ordeR?

The order will most likely be placed next week. I will probably order 25 in to start which should leave some extra.

There is suppose to be a version with the remote that I apparently did not receive. I have been in contact to verify such a unit actually exists and will let everyone know as soon as I confirm it one way or the other.

The unit is very easy to install. There is one issue that I am dealing with the manufacturer concerning the RF connector on the board. It is a little bigger then the cabling that comes with the 7700 and in order to install you must open the connector on the cable to allow the fit. I used a pair of pliers to open the housing enough to slip in.Im trying to get the connector on the board changed but haven't heard back yet.

It doesnt hurt anything doing this but I would prefer to get it changed now to avoid having any issues down the road.

Provided the manufacturer can work out all the software related issues I will be placing an order for 25 units on Monday. If the software can be worked out all units will come with remote control.
I am interested as well, how would we have to pay you? Do you have a website where we can charge it or do we have to send you a money order? I would like one with a remote also. Is there any news on that?

As of today the manufacturer of the tuner have contacted their software provider to rewrite the programs used by the tuner to specifically add support for the AW7700 and other Clevo clones sound system. The were some issues with both pieces of tested software and the way audio was being processed and controlled. I have allocated 25 units and once the software is wrote and retested to my satisfaction then I will have the tuners sent out.

On the subject of remote controls. If the software that is used is successfully fixed then every unit sold will have a remote. If not I will not get remotes with the tuners and the tuners will come with WInDVR3 with every unit and not Home Theater that is remote control supported.

This process has taken up a bunch of my time and many late nights getting this setup since everyone I have contact with is in Taiwan. For the last week I've been awake till about 3am EST trying to get everything sorted out and get the tuners in the hands of everyone who wants one. I wish AW would have gotten there stuff sorted before I took it upon myself to come up with a viable solution but to late for that now.

As for payment I will be accepting Paypal or money order when the time comes. I am Paypal business verified so nobody has to worry about getting ripped off. I've gone thru to make for that and hope that everyone who wants one appreciates what is involved in such an undertaking.

Very much appreciated, Ramrod. Looking forward to mine. Thanks again!

I just found this thread, thanks for remembering. Just PM me or whatever when you get it all straight.

When you gonna let us know the maker, or is that going to be a surprise for when we open the package?

Paypal's fine by me.
