7700 Mini PCI tv tuner coming soon!!!! - Page 12

Ramrod,

Have you noticed the TV cards producing alot of heat, even when not in use? I posted this in another thread but I wanted to check with you and anybody else here that has one of yours to see if they've experienced the same:

"The only problem I had was with my TV card which sits under the top left of the keyboard. When enabled, whether in use or not, will create alot of heat which was causing my keyboard to lockup after an hour or two of gaming. One trip to the Device Manager and diabling the TV card (I enable it if I use it) and that problem corrected itself."

As I said, since disabling the card in device manager I haven't had the keyboard lockup nor does it heat up since the thing is basically not being powered. Do you know of any reason the card would produce so much heat (almost like it was being used) even when not in use?

I think its because the card is always working even if not in use

Mine's never experienced any lockups with the keyboard. Mine does stay hot but alot of the heat alot of the heat is being transferred from the motherboard to the tuner just because of its location. I would say my tv card and network card are equally the same temperature.

hmm. must just be mine then. it produces alot more heat than the wireless card in mine.

Xtian, I know it is powered all the time when enabled but the heat produced by mine is as if it is actually being used, like to view tv or something. even when I shutdown the taskbar app near the clock, it still continues to be hot. oh well, disabling it when not in use works and that's fine with me.

anyone use the ATI USB2 external tv tuner its 99 bucks but thought i ask if anyone has used it.
That was going to be my choice if I wasn't able to get this.

I know it is always powered, but i think tv tuners are always processing the signal or something, even when not in use.

I haven't experienced any noticeable heat difference from before it was installed to afterwards. Keyboard doesn't lockup or get hot in my situation. *shrug*

Ramrod, do you have any 64-Bit driver for the TV tuner?

I would not recommend a USB tuner, let alone a ATI tuner... Unless you go with the WinFast USB II Deluxe from Leadtek then usb is bad. Its the best usb tuner out there... MiniPCI ones are a better option.

You can contact provideo directly. The new tuner right now only supports overseas digital format and not the US markets and is available for everyone else. The tuner is listed on their website so give it a look

I am interested in one of these (don't particularly care about digital) and would be willing to put down half up front. I want to use it in a Uniwill 259IA3. It has a miniPCI that was supposed to be for a TV tuner. It has a coax connector pre-wired. Let me know if you are preparing another order or if one of your previous customers want to sell theirs. Thanks.

There has not been anymore interest in the tuners and am not going to place another order as it stands now.

The market is moving towards the new digital style tuner and that seems to be the focus of most manufacturers. If I do anything it will be to get a new digital tuner on the market.

Of those tuners I did sell I assume they all are still in machines working. I've yet to hear of one failing or causing any problems.

I have read the entire thread. It looks like you are waiting on a dual digital/analog card that will work with US digital standards. When that becomes available, I am interested in that. Do you know of anyone who will sell (retail) a mini-PCI analog TV card? Good for you that you did the first order. I looked quite a while and couldn't come up with one.
