Missing disk space after reinstalling XP

First off, like a lot of people around here I recently encountered a BSoD which required me to reinstall XP. I also had some troubles reinstalling but Sager sent me a .pdf describing the process in full. If you think it would help I wold be more than happy so send it to anyone, just pm me with your email address.

OK, onto the problem. After I had XP up and running, I noticed that a lot of my data (as I assumed would happen) had been deleted. However not all. Anything in My Documents/Music/Pictures, Start Menu, and Desktop had been deleted. But all the software on the C Drive was still there. I wanted to start fom a clean slate so I went to remove programs and none of them showed up... so I just deleted them manually. After I started to reinstall stuff I noticed a lot of missing disk space. I went into to C drive and with a calculator I added the size of all the folders inside together and I got an estimate of roughly 17.5GB. Its probably a little more, but in the C drive properties it tells me I have 29.3GB of used space. That's a big difference! Even if my math is a little off I know the software I have on there doesn't take that much space.

Also my old profile is still in Documents and Settings but I cant delete or view it, apparently I dont have permission even though I'm the only user and I have Administrator permissions.

If anyone knows whats wrong and/or how I can fix it, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When you reinstalled did you format or do an overlay install? If you didn't format it it will still be there as you have found. Check to see if the recycle bin is empty. Boot safe mode and clean out anything you don't want/need. Lastly as a last resort format and reload.
