Acer Ferrari 4000 - Page 6

Quigs, you inspired me.... I also just ordered one from www.bytewizecomputers.com... Mine was $2144 (guess shipping costs to where i am are a little higher).... They said they are going to get 2 more than expected, well they'll have 1 more since I just purchased one. I can't wait to get it!!! The first thing I am gonna do is replace the stock hard drive and memory with the 7k100 (hopefully some online retailers will carry it by the time my Ferrari gets here) and 1gb of pc3200 memory (either Corsair or A-Data... they have the same timings, but the A-Data is alot cheaper).... What software should I use to run benchmarks on it?

ummm....looking at this
http://www.bytewizecomputers.com/search.php <----search for "ferrari"

Why does the 4005 cost less than the 3000, 3200 and 3400? Is it just a pre-order only discount?
urchin my only guess is its because Canada hooks it up, but i went on froogle and they were the cheapest but there were a few company's that had the ferrari 4k for just a little bit more than bytewize did

amdbuttlover, did u call? cuz the only way i was able to get the overnight fed ex was by calling and it was still cheaper than the quickest shipping offer on there website, i think it was like priority mail. and i have a feeling you're going to pay a lot of moolah to get the 7k 100 HD but good luck let me know if u find a good buy when it comes out.

amdbuttlover? thats a new one... bet you think you're pretty clever after that one, eh?... LOL... No I didnt call. you said that overnight shipping was cheaper than their fastest shipping? I might have to look into that.... Who did you talk to? How did you find that out? If i can find the 7k100, i will definately make a post about it.

i found that out through their live help chat but i talked to mike who took care of me and gave me the great deal (ext. 22)

I saw those resseler ratings too Rustican, and after a while of thinking about who to order from i still ordered from byte wize.

I saw it as theyre getting these ferraris from acer already assembled all they have to do is take em out of a big box and repack them safely in small boxes and let the shipper pick them up, thats it. So i found it sorta hard for them to really screw it up, the only way they can make me angry is if they dont package it well or they ship me an empty box, i dont mind if they dont send me the software cuz i can download it, even though it would be a bitch, as long as i have my lappy a power cord and a battery ill be extremley content, and everyone knows that 90% of people who go onto reseller ratings only do it to complain about a bad prchase.

Therefore im taking the risk of ordering through them partly because im impatient and I trust our northern friends not to screw me over.

Best of luck to you. I've preordered also from Bottom Line Telecommunications. www.shopblt.com

I emailed the people there and they were prompt with their replys. Their reseller rating also put me at east. Placed my order and it came out to around $2118. UPS ground shipping was free but i opted for Fed Ex 2nd day for an extra $26.50 so a total of $2144.68

I'll post a review when it comes in they also have the the Ferrari 4000 comming in on the 15th of this month.

So here's some smashed nanners for the two of us for no dead pixels.

I'm ordering through LaptopLogic.com... it seems as though one man is doing all of the sales there, but he is doing a damn good job of it. I told him my wishlist of things after I get the Ferrari, and he replied saying he'll look into putting it altogether for me. So far this is my best online experience, and if he put himself on resellerratings.com he'd get a 11/10.

I just got done talking to a sales rep from Bytewize on their aim style help. He/she was extremely helpful, and told me about the distributor channels in Canada vs. the US and when they were getting a demo unit. They said they would try out different things (using ddr400 for example) and let me know. Hopefully they will do this soon after they get the demo unit so we don't have to keep waiting in the dark.

The same thing that helps keep the resale value also greatly increases the price. You could easily buy a barebones MSI Megabook M635 and put in your choice of components (say like a Turion MT-40, 60gb 7200rpm HDD, 1gb PC3200) and have a notebook that performs just as well (if not better) than the Ferrari 4000 at a much cheaper price. The only performance differences I have seen between the two are the WSXGA+ screen that the Ferrari has (the m635 only has WSXGA) and the Gigabit Lan (Ferrari has it, m635 doesnt)... But if you have a laptop, chances are you won't be plugged into a gigabit switch/router all day long... it's nice to have, but not a necesity. But on the way plus side of the m635 is it's ability to play dvd's or cd's without having to boot into Windows. Its called their 'instant operating system'.... Now thats something work paying extra for!... Anyways, just a thought on how to get the most for your money.
So where do you actually buy barebone laptops for reasonable prices? everytime I find something, it is a system comparable to those that came out 4 years ago and costs $2800 or more. Maybe I have bad luck, but can someone give me some addys?
ahh screw it... there is nothing better out there for that price... ferrari it is for me as well!
can you get MSI barebones in the US?
what gfx card does the MSI have?

and a random question and blatant hijack attempt......

I seem to remember reading that the "instant on" thing was just sometype of small version of linux or sumthing. Would it be possible to do this yourself to any laptop? im thinkng not, but it would be pretty cool

Someone have a clue about the battery times of Ferrari 4000?

THe ferrari has a new chipset developed specifically for amd by ati.The previous chipsets were very old while this ones new and efficient. The turion reviews were all on the old chipsets.

Ferrari has good battery life but DOnt expect something top of the line. Can give upto 3-00 to 3-30 easily.

So,

Have any of you lucky people got one yet?
The review in Chinese was very interesting.

Does anyone here know of a planned release date in Europe?

Phil
