Acer Ferrari 4000 - Page 2

I really like the looks and the GPu BUt I think the Cpu sucks.I have always found the centrino to be better in Light notebooks. It is a personal opinion though.I would love to have a mobile athlon 3700 with a x700/x800 in this notebook and it will rock.
THe main reason for this is the socket 754 cpus more or less give the same battery life with a max variation of an hour.Check out the tests for the same.

Im not sure anyone has tested the ML turions yet....I have seen MT(25 Watt) reviews but no ML (35 Watt) reviews. Also, I think a ML would perform pretty well. I think the combo of the X700 and the turion should give us at least about 3 hours to 3 1/2 hours batt life
post #23 of 132
Darn 35W chip. There goes the battery life, its too bad that Turion did not live up to the possibility of besting centrino's battery life. We will just have to wait for reviews to see just how long it will last.

Don't discount it yet, doc.

Is it possible to buy a MT-34 (even an MT-37) and replace it?
I know it would be expensive, but if it allows for the best possible performance out of such a sweet looking laptop (and as long as I have spending money and can sacrafice a few trips to the mall) then I'd do it.

I like. However I'd rather go with the Pentium M. (Or perhaps I'm biased?)

Anyway I'm planning on painting my Acer 8100 anyway, their using the same chasis.

Ok, I just called Acer and here are some more specs on the New Ferrari 4000

AMD Turion ML-37 (2.0ghz, 35W)
15.4" WSXGA+
ATI x700 128mb GPU (finally a US AMD Laptop with a graphics card that doesn't completely suck)
1GB PC3200 DDR
100GB 5400 RPM HDD
8X Dual Layer DVD Burner (Slot Load)
5 in 1 Card Reader (why does no one besides Gateway support CF cards?)
802.11b/g Wireless
Bluetooth
Windows XP Pro

They said that the product should be launching on May 30th or so, but I wasn't given any pricing information.... The wait is on
post #27 of 132
Did anyone check to see if they were offering it in the ferrari red also or just the black?

Those specs sound awesome. Cant wait to get my grubby hands on it.
hopefully it will cost around the same price of the 3400 when it was first released
post #29 of 132
I would think around $2200.00 to $2300.00
post #30 of 132
Very nice design.
I believe it might be around $2400.00.

Remember when the 3400 was released, it started out around 2399.00. Or was it 2299.00. It took a good 6 months to 8 months for price to drop below 2000.00

Nice. I like the carbonfiber better than the red paint on the previous ones. I have a friend who has the 34oo, he always is scared of using it because he already has a few scratches on the lid.
ferrari offer a lot color for their car, black just one of them.
Awesome! It's basically the 8104 but with a Turion and DDR 3200 RAM rather than a Pentium M and DDR2 4200 RAM. I can live with the (slight) RAM downgrade if it means an AMD processor. This is just what I've bee looking for. *crosses fingers that it won't be more than the 8104*
post #35 of 132
I don't think that pc3200 really counts as a RAM downgrade b/c ddr2 has such high latencies that ddr pc3200 is probably faster than ddr2 pc4200 under most circumstances.

Ferrari 4000 User's Guide is online:

Acer Ferrari 4000 User Manual

I'm loving this... let's see how it performs when it's released... =)

From the manual it looks like it has an x700 (not an x800) and the memory is ddr333. I also didn't see that it specified the rpm of the hd. All in all, it still looks pretty sweet. Their dead pixel policy is a bit troubling though (sorry I didn't copy it in but my pdf viewer didn't want to let me select text).
