Acer Ferrari 4000 - Page 3

seriously, the ferrari branding makes it worth less, not 800 bucks more than it should be.
i bet if you wait not too long you'll find something with similar specs for much cheaper...
Damn, that is a beauty! For those who want more pictures of it I recommend the Manual, it showes every view of it. The keyboard area is pure black.

so it this basically a TM 8104 with all the same heating issues? i love the look and specs, but question if this wont have the same issues as the other top of the line acers (and i never thought acers were top quality, but maybe i'm wrong?)

I'm sorry but the previous ferrari's have always been cheeper than the top of the line travelmate with the same specs; You could get the 8006 for $2200 or the ferrari 3400 for $2000 so that $800 dollar figure you are pompously throughing around to seem intelligent is incorrect. If you can find something with the same or better specs available be all means show us, but there isn't. And on another note the ferrari branding actually helps the resale value

Ferrari's do hold incredible resale value... but why? In my opinion it's because of the 'cool factor'. They are great laptops, but they definately arent the best available. The same thing that helps keep the resale value also greatly increases the price. You could easily buy a barebones MSI Megabook M635 and put in your choice of components (say like a Turion MT-40, 60gb 7200rpm HDD, 1gb PC3200) and have a notebook that performs just as well (if not better) than the Ferrari 4000 at a much cheaper price. The only performance differences I have seen between the two are the WSXGA+ screen that the Ferrari has (the m635 only has WSXGA) and the Gigabit Lan (Ferrari has it, m635 doesnt)... But if you have a laptop, chances are you won't be plugged into a gigabit switch/router all day long... it's nice to have, but not a necesity. But on the way plus side of the m635 is it's ability to play dvd's or cd's without having to boot into Windows. Its called their 'instant operating system'.... Now thats something work paying extra for!... Anyways, just a thought on how to get the most for your money.

Interesting to see that you have seen performance comparsions of a laptop that haven't even been released yet. I take it for granted that you don't throw out a statement like that as a fact, if you don't have proof. That would be really stupid.
Hmmmm... When I compare it to the TM8100, it's identical except of the horse (and the backside)! The other Acer Ferrari's at least had a uniqe design that looked like no other Acer, this makes me feel like they lost their imagination. It's still pretty, though.

I'm loving this... let's see how it performs when it's released... =)
Great find!

The Acer Ferrari 4000 series really seems to be better in any way compared to the Acer Travelmate 8100 series.

I wonder what Turion 64 model Acer is going to equip it with, perhaps Turion ML-40 (2.2GHz, 35W) or Turion MT-37 (2.0GHz, 25W) ?

I believe the name belongs to you; is it available in America? NO! What is the processor? 1.6 NOT 2.0 How much RAM? 512mb NOT 1 gig How much HDD space? 80 gig NOT 100 gig What resolution? 1280x800 NOT 1680x1050
They don't even have the same case or the same amount of USB or ANYTHING so if anyone is the idiot it is YOU because once you add up all the costs of all the extra stuff you aren't paying much for a black case with Ferrari logos and a mouse. Next time don't compare the middle of a product line to the top of the line gaming machine

ya the 4000 is basically a travelmate 8100 but with a bit more advance stuff (ex. better cpu & graphic chipsets? and the slot drive and also the bluetooth mouse), I see no special ferrari design to it like the previous unqiue red ferrari laptops, i was expecting a whole new design to the 4000 series.... let's just hope that some of the problems we are seeing from the 8100 are fixed in this 4000

So, the 2.0 gHz processor, 20gb extra, 512 MB ram and a slightly better screen is worth $1000 dollars (the acer on the dutch page being less than 1000 euros, which is ~1200 dollars)?! you ARE an idiot!
how about this:
http://www.technoworld.com/productdi...roductID=22392
there is your 100gb 1gig ram with the 1.8 turion for less than 1000 pounds (~1700 dollars)! the extra 700 dollars for a slightly better processor and screen?!
please buy the ferrari and be happy with it... i wouldn't be. i think it sucks that the 5024 isn't available in the US, but i'm not in that much of a bind to spend too much for the ferrari.
actually what display card is it using? X700 or X200??
x700

DNE, why did you expect a new design? The old Ferraris were just Travemate 8000s with a paint job. Acer did the exact same thing as they did last time. Use an existing case, changed out the lid (carbon fiber this time), AMD instead of intel CPU, painted the sides red, and included a slot load drive instead of a tray.

Yeah, the Ferrari series are basically a spiffed-up version of the top-of-the-line Travelmate series. I guess we can call the Acer Ferrari 4000 the Acer Travelmate 8104 done right, with much neater design.

While the Acer Ferrari 4000 looks really stunning, it's not perfect. First of all it should be equipped with a Turion 64 MT-37 (2.0GHz, 25W) and NOT Turion 64 ML-37 (2.0GHz, 35W), and 1GB DDR400 and NOT 1GB DDR333.

The rechargeable Bluetooth wireless optical mouse they've included is a very cool addition though. The black carbon fibre also looks cool, but in my opinion not as slick as the red paint job on the previous models.

odbasucanc why do you keep saying a number around $2400 when it will probably be $2000 +- $100

Wow looks nice. The Turion should generate less heat than the Pentium-M but would have somewhat less battery life and be slightly slower than a 2Ghz P-M. The x700 is a nice chip. Slot loading DVD is nice. Other than that it looks identical to the 8104 in terms of screen, keyboard, USB ports, firewire, wifi, usb, etc.

It should run cooler at the trackpad than the 8104 (unless its the gpu thats the heat culprit).

Its almost time for the wifey to upgrade her 800Mhz powerbook. Hmmmm. I wonder if I could sell her on taking my 8104 and me getting a Ferrari 4K? Lol.
